I'm forever reading threads about SLS and depreciation.

It's not going to lose a fortune and if you buy one and it loses 10 bags who cares, you only live once so enjoy it
This is mainly true, it is only those of us who bought brand new that lose a lot, mine lost £40k in twenty months and that was after buying it with a £50,000 discount! Anyone buying a two year old SLS now at around £100k or £120k'ish for a Roadster shouldn't lose too much. You cannot buy a better, useable car still under manufacturers warranty at this price level.

Am hoping to book my Roadster in for GT gearbox upgrade this week.

How much is the gearbox upgrade? Does the car have to go back to Germany for it? Does it affect the smoothness of the changes when you're not pressing on?
It has to go back to Germany. The cost when it gets there is €1500 + VAT.

From what I hear it improves the gearbox at all levels, including engaging more quickly from neutral. I will have mine back within the next week so will know more then.

It was a great trip we made a few months ago, treated like royalty whilst there with a full AMG factory tour.

Visited the Porsche Museum too.

Upgrade is superb, selects from neutral much quicker particularly noticeable into reverse and gives a much cleaner take off without the lurch.

The best thing for me is the way in which it changes in paddle shift.....a definite thump, beautifully positive change and much better blipage between downchanges.......might even be more crackling on over run

Is it more than just software then? Do you think they'll make it available through the UK dealerships at some point?

It is only software....It took 30 mins

They say it will never be available anywhere but the factory, you can imagine how the Americans are honking about that.

Seems crazy in that case, almost like they are trying to restrict its availability. Not a bad run from the UK if you make a trip of it though. I wonder if the cars they use on track at Brooklands have got the tweek. The box felt sharp to me, but I'll pay attention to how quickly they engage reverse next week.

How do you go about arranging the upgrade, do you go through the Merc dealer to arrange or did you contact AMG yourself, think it is an upgrade I might have to get

I went though dealer as was having other work done at same time, but was then asked to arrange the gearbox bit direct with AMG (at AMG insistence). i then paid direct as well. Send me an email if you want the contact details at AMG.

Not when you have driven the car and discover it's been transformed

Oh, I totally agree that I'd probably do it too if I had an SLS. But its a bit hard to understand the pricing point, when it doesnt cost them anything other than 30mins labour. Especially as it's almost like they're rectifying a shortfall in the original software anyway.

I agree about it possibly correcting a shortfall, but to say that the only cost is half an hour's labour is completely ignoring what must have been a considerable amount of R and D time. I suspect they will need a fair few 1500s to cover that.

Well chaps, more & more of them seem to be dipping below the sub £100k mark now...& I could've sworn I've seen 1-2 as of recent times in the low 90's! I gather the manufacture of the SLS's has now run it's course (So I hear? Or is that false?) - Where do we think these maybe heading come Spring 2014?

A year a go me & friends were expecting them to bottom out around the mid/high 60's when buying trade come mid-late 2014...Not so sure now however!

I suppose if they are retailing in the 90s, they are likely to be changing hands in the trade at not much more than £80k. I don't think you're too far out, but I think it's more likely to be mid 70s than mid 60s. I do wonder where the bottom of the curve will come though.
