I'm working my way through my list of possibles. Really liked the SLS (apart from banging my head when I stood up after getting out! . Wanted to try a DBS or V12V but have only managed to get out in a DB9, which I wasn't really all that impressed with. Was considering a V12V or a DBS, as well as a Gallardo LP560 or a 599. The DBS or V12V would have to be a hell of a step up from the DB9 to be a consideration now.

The DBS and v12v are hugely different from the db9Much depends on what your into and your driving style. For me the SLS wins hands down a a proper brut of a car with is angry growl and modern dynamics.

I considered a SLS but eventually bought a SL63 as more suitable for what we wanted. I also have a V12 Vantage. They are completely different cars/experiences.
I appreciate that and if I were in the market for more than one supercar, I'd do what you did. Sadly, I'm not. vpr said:
Absolutely.....DBS is a world apart from a DB9 which we had prior to the DBS.

At this price level you don't often get bad cars,so it always boils down to driving preferences.Much depends on what your into and your driving style. For me the SLS wins hands down a a proper brut of a car with is angry growl and modern dynamics.
The Aston is more discrete I think and after a gallardo Spyder I wanted a lower profile.but the sls is fantastic .
What do we reckon these cars are going to do in the next year or so chaps?
I had an SLS last year - it was the first on in the UK to get the GT gearbox software upgrade. I've regretted selling it ever since (slightly out of my control....issues using it for work and I'm not one to use something inferior day to day). Thinking of coming back as the work issue is no longer - my M6 has bombed as expected, and I think it'll continue to drop significantly over the next year so do we reckon £90-100k is safe in a 3-4 year old SLS?

I really would find it hard to choose between one of these and an LP560.
Both are at the right kind of money - SLS's seem to have held well over the past 6 months (I think they bottomed out circa 9 months back) but with Gallardos, great time to buy! Had one recently offered to me at £36k trade price, unbelievable value really.Palmball said:

Hi andrew how you doing? I think the only way these cars are going is up. Not many about and prices seem to be rising . I think it might even become collectors in years to come. Gallardo for £36k is insane - even if it is an old one and relatively dated, it still looks a millions dollars!
Just trying to decide whether to stick with the M6 for another year or bite the bullet, get out of it and back into the SLS. If I'm brutally honest, the M6 is the better all-round car and I will miss it's all round competence, but not as much as I miss the 'specialness' of the SLS. I had the M6 for 9 months and reckon it'll lose another £15k in the next year....in comparison, is it my imagination that SLS's seem to have lost next to nothing over the last year?

Hello buddy, doing good thanks. Long time no speak There certainly seems to be a dearth of SLS's at the moment, especially ones with decent spec.
One things for sure, the minute I buy one it's getting booked into Affalterbach for that gearbox upgrade again - after being used to the BMW DCT drivetrain, the tranny in the SLS will desperately need that upgrade!

No, not yet. I get a new M3 in a few weeks if that counts? No? Thought not
That'll be the sensible car and again one of the reasons I'm thinking of getting rid of the M6 - the two BMW's will be very similar. SLS will be a nice contrast.
Thats not to say I won't get a C63 to replace the M3 next year, but AMG really do need to fit a decent gearbox this time. Be interesting to see how their new 4.0 bi-turbo sounds too.

The fact that most people couldn't tell the difference between a hundred thousand pound Gallardo and a fifty thousand pound Gallardo is a point in the SLS's favour I guess. A lot of people I speak to who have a passing interest in cars but are not all that knowledgeable think that an SLS costs hundreds of thousands for some reason.
I wasn't too sure about the gearbox issue as I hardly use manual in London but decided to give it a go a few days ago on a nice clear stretch of road. My god is it slow! I was caught out and redlined because it took somewhere over a second to react. I had previously driven a cayman pdk and didn't see the point of a manual mode because it changed so quickly and reacted so well in auto and manual so expected the merc version(apparently the same gearbox as the Ferrari 458)to be only a fraction slower. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I was genuinely shocked and disappointed considering having in auto mode it changes gear so smoothly. Really have to book in for a software upgrade now!
Oh you're not doing anything wrong cho....the 'box is sh!te. Plain and simple. Yes, it's the same (Getrag?) unit as fitted to a host of other cars inc; 458 an (I think) BMW's DCT but Merc appear to have no idea whatsoever on how to program them. And whilst it's monumentally better after the upgrade, it's still no PDK or DCT.
Anyway, trying to buy an SLS over the last few days has been painful - there aren't many for sale (that aren't stupid army green coloured cab's or really base spec cars) and a few that are advertised actually aren't available. Humph
