SLS Depreciation
Discussion
That green convertible has been around for ages. I think I got in just at the right time luckily. Initially thought it was a bit 'agricultural' impaired to a Bentley supersports but really love it now. Just have to keep it in sport and not use manual just yet. I'm sure a few more will pop up but this is probably last chance for now until the SLC(?) comes out.

I went to buy a black one a merc Newbridge but when I got and shut the door it felt like a coffin lid coming down and it freaked me out, I did not like it at all and bought the 507 coupe instead!
I guess the gullwing doors are not for everyone! My biggest beef with them is that I banged my head when I stood up after getting out after someone opened the door for me, hurting my pride nearly as much as my head! I've done a deal on a 2011 model today - it's not the cheapest but it is a perfect spec and (for me) colour combo.
In all honesty, driving one today really demonstrated just what an underrated car my current M6 is - in so many objective areas it feels the better car. But in the end it's not an SLS, it doesn't have that engine or the sheer presence.
If my missus wasn't taking delivery of a new M3 when they're launched next week, I'd be less keen giving up the M6 for the SLS. As it is, the M3 will offer most of what the M6 does (but I expect in a more dynamic package) so that leaves a gap for something really special like the SLS.
I just hope values perform similarly in the next year as they have done of the last and prices stay largely static. Man maths dictates that with dwindling supply (a good proportion of current adverts are for sold cars, with one less after today) there should be little need for prices to drop.

My Wife has an E90 M3 which I can't get her out of but looking at the M4 tomorrow.TBH the SLS and M3 sit side by side and I tend to jump in the M3....Such a good car

Palmball, you are a legend and respect to you, you clearly love cars and must spend a fortune on them, but did you not sell your last SLS (on which I recall you spent a fair bit upgrading) due to pressure from your boss, then buy an M6, then an M6 comp pack, which you've again just spent big on, and now you are going back to an SLS? Would it not be cheaper to buy an Aventador or F12 and keep it a few years? Not having a go, sorry if it comes across that way, just curious. In all honesty, driving one today really demonstrated just what an underrated car my current M6 is - in so many objective areas it feels the better car. Lol...it does appear that way yes. But for the record, you are right as to why I sold the first SLS but lets say we've overcome that problem and come to an agreement And yes, I've had two M6's....but if theres one thing to note, I've now owned 'an' M6 (of one type or another) for over a year which is fairly reflective of how good I think it is. I wouldn't say I've spent 'big' on it....all I've had is the M Drivers pack retrofitted - essentially a 190mph limiter and a BMW track day (in an M4) - I'll be keeping the latter to use later in the year. Before plumping for another SLS, I looked seriously at an F-Type R and 991 C4S and to be honest, neither was special enough to ultimately tempt me out of the M6 (and both would've been more depreciation nightmares). The SLS was the only one in the running really and I hope it turns out to be a decent buy.
And as for a proper hyper car....well, I'd be the same with one of those wouldn't I? Wanting to change it after a period of time! My best intention with this SLS is to keep it (ha!)....and work much harder so I can afford to chop and change another car. I'm a nut with cars, that I can't deny.

Congratulations again Palmball. I had similar regrets when moving out of my Bentley supersports. I always said that car did everything I needed of it being a decent size for shopping etc, quiet when needed and fast enough for London. I hadn't test driven the SLS or even seen it before buying. Once we got in and started driving away from the dealership it was such a shock. Firstly space is at a premium and secondly it obviously sounded so agricultural next to the Bentley. Just so much noise coming into the cabin. I was initially a bit worried that I'd made the wrong choice but now after a month or two realise I've made the right one and actually find it a bit too quiet!
I suppose it depends on which car you are coming from and how much relative comfort you will have been used to. Yes there are things they could have done better but only minor things which don't impinge on the driving experience

I get bored with cars quite quickly and found the solution is to but many then when you get bored of one, stick it in the garage and get another out and so on until the love comes back and so the cycle goes on.......
That is one way of doing it....regrettably, one SLS and an M3 is my limit. Must work harder!cho said:

Thanks cho - when I got my last SLS I was coming out of a Jag XKR-S and whilst it was a noisier car, the Merc did seem a lot more advanced (despite the Jag being almost brand new!), particularly technology wise. This time round, the Merc seems quite dated compared to the M6, which really is a technological tour de force. But you get used to what you have and soon forget about what you got used to previously (except this time, I couldn't quite forget about all the bits I liked about my first SLS hence my desire to get back in one). It's a totally different experience to a pure 'GT', although it can still do the GT bit well enough.I suppose it depends on which car you are coming from and how much relative comfort you will have been used to. You may be, but if you can afford it then why not? Appreciate the reply, I hope you find the spec you're looking for. Will we ever see an SLS as cheap as the 31k mile example Motorpoint had up for £79,999 a couple of months ago?Edited by Palmball on Saturday 14th June 00:06
I'm pretty sure that Motorpoint car was plus VAT
I've found an amazing SLS, right up my street in terms of colour and interior combo (certainly not a typical or popular combination....but then I do currently have an M6 with a pure white interior!). It's also by far not the cheapest, but it's definitely the best spec'd I have ever seen. Currently belongs to another PH'er and I should be getting it tomorrow

I found that sls prices are very colour combo and spec dependent... to find a non red nom white car with ceramics, carbo dash/mirrors, b&o, and forged rims led to cars at the more expensive end of whats for sale.
