Is cutting required for the Milltek part? I'm bound by warranty still and would like a bolt-on solution in case one day something pops and it needs to go in as an un-fettled car.

The main difference I see between the Milltek part and most x-pipe setups is that the Milltek leaves the centre resonator in, which is where I imagine the x-pipe wins in the noise stakes.

Been through this as mine is also still in warranty. Merc told me all warranty items remain covered - barrng the exhaust. So, if you had a problem wit say, your main cats they may not like the fact that it's been played with so a warranty 'discussion' may ensue. I was also told that removing the secondary cats will not affect the MOT.

No cutting is required, I still have the almost new cats to go back on if needed.

Noise is entirely 'adequate' - you won't be disappointed wink

I bought x pipe from cks performance, for my ole c63.
whilst the sound was good, the pipes looked very cheap, all straight bits very poorly welded together and needed cutting to fit.
i have also seen a few cars (mine included) that the tips stick out a bit further than normal with aftermarket pipes.
Personal experience says avoid the cks pipes, but milltek did not offer anything at the time.

Ha - saw this thread reappear - back in May I was tempted but I had this done around June - I wouldn't go back to stock that's for sure - agree with most reviews on here - more noise when you want it - sounds amazing, normal if you don't want to cause a fuss. Most noise is at 3-4k.

I posted a revie here:

I had it dyno'd after at Surrey rolling road, 520 bhp.

Sorry to bring this one back up...

I'm weeks away from my 507 now and thinking about track days. I've been toying with the idea of the IPE system to soften the sound for noise tests and give me more smiles at all other times. Can anyone say (those who have been on track will know for sure) what the static noise level is on the stock system vs the cat delete or other options? I don't fancy spending 5k on the full IPE or whatever the cat back system costs...are there other options?

Sorry I can't say for sure but stock is fine at Bedford but never went round there after removing secondary cats. I have been there a fair few times in my track m3 and there have been cars I would saw were louder than my 507 with sec cats removed but no real proof of that.

Anyway, the c63 is not a good track car, I've taken mine to Bedford, Spa and the Ring so I would do a few days to try your car out but wouldn't get to serious with it - it's fast on track but to heavy and brakes/tyres are expensive.

Personally I think the C63 sounds fantastic with just the secondary cats removed which literally costs peanuts (you don't need the miltek pipes really) as long as you go to a reputable exhaust place, they can either gut the cats and leave the boxes in situ or remove and weld new pipes in their place. I went to MSL for mine.

I think with just cats done it has a OEM sound still whereas some of these exhausts cost 1000s and make the car sound a bit too over the top (just my opinion). There is a reason Miltek only made cat delete pipes, It's because they said you cannot really improve on the sound - I agree.

Not a C63, i know, but just as a bit of a warning / hopefully helpful advice for others.

I have just fitted a pair of Supersprint back boxes and X-pipe to my CLS55 AMG and honestly, it just sounds like OEM. While i wasnt after anything stupidly loud, i did want to release a bit more bark, as OEM set up is very quiet.

Sure, the supersprint parts are significantly lighter and has probably released a few horses, but, to get almost the same sound as OEM is hugely disappointing given the outlay. Youtube videos looked very promising too lol, however I was basing the hopeful change of bark on several BMW's right from 318/325/328/330 up to E39 M5, and had hoped the change would be roughly equivalent. weeping

A nuisance when this happens as, clearly, you can't tell beforehand. Perhaps it comes alive at high revs - maybe get a mate to follow you along the motorway to listen.
