Which MB owners clubs
Discussion
Hi Which is the best club for tech info/enthusiasm/DIY/forum help? I'm not so interested in the newer stuff or the social side. I drive an R129 and a keen dIYer rather than a expert, wishing to maintain and improve my car rather than complete refurbishment.

The last one on your list, Mecedes-Benz Club UK, is without doubt the best one to go for IMHO. I don't use it very often, but they are invaluable for the sheer depth of technical knowledge amongst the members on every aspect of every model ever made by MB.
Hope you are still enjoying the new purchase.

The car's great thanks. I'm sorting all the niggles/simple things as I go on, top mounts, arb bushes, oiling the throttle linkage, silicon lube on the hood seals, have all improved the drive (along with regular use). I will be looking at the rear suspension rubbers next.
I have booked a long weekend away, so looking forward to using the car some more

It doesn't cost you anything to join and the knowledge in general is fantastic. The site is USA based so not all of the models available in Europe are covered, however R129 is covered from head to toe including technical help, DIY project, guides and photos.

Avoid MBClub.co.uk unless you are a C63 lease pilot...
That's a nice sweeping generalisation! It is not a bad forum, (some of us even own our C63's). There a few trolls on there, but overall, a friendly bunch.
I've had some very useful advice from the guys on MBClub.co.uk and I've met a few as well. A damn fine bunch as far as I'm concerned. And that's speaking as a non C63-owning member of the MB Owners Club.
Yes, there are one or two trolls, but all forums, including PH, tend to have a few.
No harm in joining them all if you are a real enthusiast, many folk do belong to all three.
What ever one you belong to there will always be the ones intent on spoiling some threads with no thoughts for the OP at all.
My thoughts for what they are worth are,
Official club great if you like get together's, forum not so good.
MB club UK great bunch well moderated forum some good technical info.
Mercedes club org, many indies post to help members, good forum well run, lots of technical information and help.

I used to post on the first couple, thought they were good forums. Haven't used the third but looks a but more specialist.
Depends what you're after really as they have to cater for such a wide variety of people given its such an incredible brand. You could have someone asking about how to spec a new A180 CDI on the same board as someone restoring a classic SL!

I think that one answers where one can on those forums, I do, for instance I am not a diesel man at all, so I hardly ever go near diesel threads, the rest of the car is the same, and many models can share the same faults as the same technology is used, just take the brake lamp switch that can affect many models.Depends what you're after really as they have to cater for such a wide variety of people given its such an incredible brand. Even on here we have all the different models, and it all flows well

Hi doc, I used to be a member of the last of your three options when I had my w123. I'd recommend it and will be rejoining when I pick mine up in a few weeks. Cheers.
