CL vs S class?

Well found! I'd forgotten that pic!The interior has a slightly more brown tint to it - it is the same colour as the "Designo" photo found in the CL brochure. I guess the original owner just opened the book and said "I want that one ..." !
I have an E at the moment and am seriously 're opted by either an S or CL
The big attraction of The cl is that it is more focuses on the driver rather than the passengers. Also the 500 version of the s is only available as a lwb which is a massive put off unless I make enough money to employ a driver!!!!
Boot space if my biggest worry really
My other concern is whether you can get a tow hitch (horror a caravan - just small box trailer and bike rack periodically)

Thanks Andrew
I do agree ref the tow hitch in principal but the car needs to complete the jobs required of the 'daily.
Ref the ABC you could be right (I have an sl55 as well so am fully aware of the system!)
That said, my e w212 saloon has full air suspension as an option and has no issue with the tow.
Interesting - perhaps it would be better to go with an S in due course, perhaps opting for the smaller engine and keeping with the swb.
Hmmmm - decisions decisions!!!!!

Take the right one James!
I've have had 4 CL's and still own one amongst various other Mercedes.
My current CL500 is a Blue Efficiency, 2012, (2013mdl year) owned for over 2 years, purchased with just 12k on the clock. In my eyes it looks fantastically understated in a luxury premium way, drives better than any previously purchased Bentley GT with ownership (and warranty) at a fraction of the cost.
Both Saloon & Coupe variants offer luxury, power and performance. The former, (unfortunately) is often seen as an up-market taxi and you may have the odd person/persons jumping in via the back doors when parked up at take-aways, airports and waiting by the side of the road. That's after they expect you to load the luggage for them.
For a big twin-turbo 4.7ltr V8, over 30mpg is very achievable on motorways (not driving like a Tesla S driver either - have you ever seen a Muskmobile owner doing more than 65-70 max on a motorway? - I haven't) and typically 20-23mpg urban. It's a big heavy long car after all. I drive mainly in ECO mode as around town it's got more than enough torque. If I want to get a real move-on switching to sport usually brings a wider grin to my face. The CL500 is no sluggard and since it's my daily driver I didn't want (or need) the expense of running the CL63 as brilliant as it is.
Pressing the ABC button to sport suspension mode stops it tilting around corners when you press on. In normal setting the ride is incredible, deleting road imperfections like they weren't even there. Did I mention comfort? Amazing with front and rear a very pleasant place to be, but try and find one with a light interior - most are black.
The boot space is enormous and access to the rear seats is good, (even for older folk) and again better than a Conti GT, including leg room with far more comfort in my opinion. Tow-bar? Don't think that's an option but ask.
Totally recommended but make sure you find a good one, preferably with an MB warranty. They're now fantastic value for money and I've found it very hard to replace without spending almost triple what mine's worth now (£20-26k max) to get a used new shape low miles S-Class 500 Coupe.

Mercedes-AMG S 63 4MATIC+:
Liking this. A lot.
“#metoo”Liking this. A lot.
I was very kindly offered one of the very first customer drives when the original non-4MATIC version came out. Nice day, loads of cool gifts and friendly PR team smoothing the event along.
I must say I really enjoyed the ride and driving position - one of the best I’ve ever experienced certainly. The cockpit as I remembered it was far tighter than the W215 and W216 AMGs I was used to. But impeccable fit and finish - befitting of the flagship Merc - for sure. Everything felt like a supremely upholstered seating space in a modern St James club. I loved it.
Sound wise, somethings been lost, in my opinion, and is more distant thunder than the ACK ACK of the old 63. But whilst I don’t think the exterior styling isn’t quite the supreme landmark that MB should always make its senior coupe, up close the car has great presence and just fits around you. It’s a well cut fit. But not quite a design for the ages.
I managed to get the thing out onto some open roads and the thing just glides round corners. I couldn’t resist stressing out the dealership chap and my friend in the back when stamping to see what kickdown was all about. But I’m glad I did. It was dead easy to imagine just jumping in that thing an early Friday morning and then telescoping myself down to Toulouse in next to no time, and be fresh as the proverbial at the end of it. Crushingly competent is one of those deadbeat magazine hack phrases I detest but I’m out of words as to what else I could describe this thing as.
I ummed and ahhhed. For weeks. Flicking back and forth through the pricing booklet and all the trim options. Lost my appetite too. But. I just couldn’t make my mind up: a newer SL63 (gave up trying to convince myself I’d get used to that ugly stepchild front end); downsize to a C63 coupe (but the convertible was yet to show, and the coupe had fairly humpbacked diesel cousins everywhere I looked, which made me curse); or just fold on my weak hand and enjoy the depreciation dance on the S63. I gave up as none quite hit the emotional spot. I’ve since gone off to try some other engine/manufacturer combos that I hadn’t played with before.
But the S63 is teasing me again. I’ll come back to AMG soon.
