Anyone have winter tyres on their C 63 yet?
Discussion
Sadly I don't have a C63. But can share my winter tyre experience for my 350ML. I know it's a totally different car, but this May help.....
Last year I found my ML lost traction quite a lot. So decided to get winter tyres fitted this year.
After a lot of research and speaking to tyre fitters, I have had verdestein extreme winters fitted. Experience so far is very good. Done about 150 miles, including driving in very cold and then heavy rain. The tyres certainly add that bit more grip, will need to see how they are in snow, but think they will be great. The other positive is that the winter tyres don't feel any different from summer tyres and there is no extra road noise.
Here is a link to the ones that may be suitable for your C63. My neighbour has a brand new E63 and have just been telling him about these tyres.

On a negative, the stocks of good winter tyres are falling, so you may need to move fast. At the first sign of snow, the last ones will go! Also, you may need to get different alloys to fit the tyres.
If you do get the tyres fitted, I would be keen to hear how they run.

I'll not be fitting any. The crossover point for better performance is quoted at what, 7 degrees? That seems to be where "budget" brands are overtaken by winter tyres, bus given the tyres on our cars are softer / better, I'd hope that this point is shifted down a couple of degrees. It just isn't that cold that often in London, and if conditions are terrible then I'll not drive.
Interested to hear how others do, though.

If I could only use one type of tyre all year round, I would use winters. The trade off in mild- or warm-weather performance against "summer" tyres is tiny whereas the traction gain in cold weather are substantial. I do live in the north, though.
The difference in conditions is pretty marked. I lose maybe 1 day on average per year in London to icy or snowy conditions. In Northumberland it can be weeks. When switching from 4WD cars to the C63 (RS4 and 911 GTS), I was definitely aware that I'd have to carefully plan trips back home around the weather in the colder months. In London it's just not an issue.
First set of winter tyres ever owned just fitted. I had to buy some second-hand 18" rims as, seemingly, winter tyres are not available to fit the 19" rims that came with my CLS 63. I also got the tyres second-hand but virtually new from someone who had sold his AMG.
The reason I took the plunge is that I now live in a village having moved from London. Accordingly, it is not so easy to just stay in when roads are icy or it snows! And I can't walk to the station any more, it's too far.
They seem ok to me, indeed better than the 19" as I don't notice every small bump on the road. But let's see what they are like when it snows.
