One very angry c63 owner!

Thanks Gents, love the Car so really want one, as an ex motor engineer retired now 71 years, would i wonder a change of Auto trans fluid help...remember that Auto Fluid ATF would go Black after a while from its new Red colure , but in those days no heat sensors etc...so box worked fine. Thanks again...put my mind at rest somewhat. Pete

In my opinion, limp mode or overheating on the road is not normal - the oil temp the OP describes, 135 - I've not seen anymore than 125/126 on two different track events (and no limp mode either). So if you do not intend to track your car I would say there are no issues to be worried about, IMO.
Quite regulary see temps above 125/6 on the road. In Wales I had it up at 145!! Limp mode more than not. I am sure if Merc GB get enough emails, comments etc they will sort it

Wow - 145 - I know people can drive differently but I'm basing my experiences on track days where no more than 125/126 and that's is putting the car through its paces/extremes. Only difference is mine is a 507 but that's just the bonnet and remap that's different to a PP car. I think you have tracked your c63 if I remember correctly - any limp mode?
Anyway I'm off to Spa and Nurburgring next week, will report back on temps...

No limp mode on my track day, but it was a very wet, cold bedford, which isn't a very demanding track on the gearbox. 145 was reached on mountain passes in quite good weather. It happened in manual and sport plus. The gearbox was working extremely hard. I believe the bonnet vents in yours really work, and that is why they fitted them. It would be interesting to fit a 507 bonnet to mine and see what the temps do.

Regarding Bedford, your right - it's a fast circuit so not overly demanding on a gearbox (not short and twisty) - should try it somewhere like Brands or a mountains pass!
Anyway I have just done a secondary cat delete on mine so maybe I won't be able to do anymore track days due to dbs...

Forgot about this thread but no issues for me or any cars at spa - no issues at the Ring either but that's not tough on temps.
So from my straw poll, I would say there is no issue with my car and overheating and I have done 3 track days, 1 ring trip, 181 mph on the autobahn, so other than mine being a 507, not sure on this one.
Anyone with temp issues got a PP car?
I did ask the AMG guys about this at the Spa event and they didn't say it was an issue etc. The c63 race taxi with Karl Wenlinger doing laps of Spa didn't overheat either but The cooling/ front valance is different:

Regarding the gearbox temps, I spent 3 hours on an airfield recording various sounds profiles for GRID 2 (the C63 sounds in the game are my car). This involved lots of full-throttle 1st & 2nd gear work and I never had any problems with temps.
Same again for my multiple 180mph+ runs on the Autobahn.

Hi Dan.
I have a C63 am based in Northants and would love a meeting of C63's.
Evening would be good, but so would an early weekend.

That sounds good. I will have mine back in a couple of weeks as my wife is away in Devon in it. What spec did you get? Mine was a standard car although I have now had a DMS remap - the difference is amazing. Pop past whenever you fancy. 23 wharf rd.

Friend of mine bought a new C63 AMG this year, and has suffered from rattles, creaks and loose trim from day one, then after 2000 miles the engine lunched itself
The contents of the sump looked like a scrapyard.
Mercedes replaced the engine, but would not or could not give any explanation as to what had happened.
He says that it is the worst car he has ever owned, and given the premium charged for the C63 would have expected much better from Mercedes, needless to say he wants rid, and will never buy the pointed star again.

This sounds like your normal argument between the design team and the vehicle attributes - design want it to look a certain way and they wont let the powertrain engineers get in their way.
I've come across it in my own line of work. It sucks, but generally design get their way as people buy on aesthetics mainly.
Complaining to Mercedes might get you somewhere. They don't need the press - they might install the 'Black series' pack for you.

Hi Chaps
Here is the thing: ALL face lift cars (except the black) suffer this.
It is down to poor cooling. Once the oil temp reaches 135 degC then it goes into a limp mode with no error messages.
There is a 'fix' FOC from Mercedes that simply lifts this threshold to 145 degC and a slightly different limp mode, where it will limit throttle inputs while 145 or over, as soon as it drops to 144 then full throttle again.
Unfortunately the proper fix is to have the cooling like the black, but this costs a lot of money. I have heard cira £3k.
Not good!
However I have to say that you have to drive the car pretty hard to trigger this.
More of a concern on my track day the other day was my Carbon Ceramic brakes cooking themselves - the pedal went to the floor after some laps and when I stopped, the HEAT and smoke coming from the brake was unbelievable!
A took a friends girlfriend for a few laps here: (a little more gentle than usual laps)
