Heading to my local MB Dealer tomorrow to view a C63 Coupe. I'm actually only interested in the Saloon variant. "Sadly" they only have the coupe frown .

I've never driven or owned a Merc of any sort so I'll be using tomorrow to find out as much as I can about the mercedes brand. For example - What is their management system / infotainment system like? I currently own a BMW (M135i) and find iDrive simply amazing!

Other than that I'm keen to know what the service intervals are like and what it's like to live with.

I'd be looking to spend no more than 35k. So what sort of C63 would I get for that sort of money?

I've always admired the C63 from a far and never thought I'd be in a position to get my hands on one. Really hope it doesn't disappoint me lol.

Buying a coupe you will but if your going for the saloon make sure you go for the facelift version. 2012 onwards. Far better

1st thing -THE NOISE
I've had 2 c63 they explode in your ears
Much more than the 135 ( my wife has m135i )
The smile
The speed
The smile
The noise
The smile
The windows down
The smile
The stereo never gets turned on
The smile
The trips through hind head tunnel ( repeat)
The smile
The trips to shell ( repeat )
The not so smile ( repeat )
The I don't care I've got a c63 .......smile

A C63 IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR CHRISTMAS.......

I've had previously 535d, 335d 335i m5 e39 , m5 e60, m6. The I drive is better on bmw rather than command but if that's what you want stick with the bm,
The command is NOT what sells the C63.
Expect no more than 17mpg if you drive it properly,
Expect no more than 25 mpg if you don't
It prefers 98 Ron fuel
There are lots of cars coming up at main dealers, choose one you want don't be rushed into something.
The prices MAY drop when the new turbos come out but then may rise as there won't be many more cars like them in the future.....
Oh did I mention the NOISE

Why is it better? Other than the interior.

From what i can see the pre-fl is exactly the same and doesn't suffer with overheating like the newer one.

What colour do you want OP?

Thanks for the responses.

I'd also like to know the differences between the pre and post facelift cars (excluding looks). Does one suffer from issues that other doesn't?

As for colour I think they look great in black. Really serious looking!

For the money...

Pre facelift: You'll get a low mile PPP car with diff, etc.
Post facelift: you'll get a PPP car with more miles on.

Pre FL the interiors are not the greatest. FL cars interiors are much nicer.

Pre FL cars had round front fogs, FL cars have an LED strip both sides at the front.

Pre FL does not suffer overheating of the box. FL does!

Pre FL has an automatoc box. FL has a multiclutch auto (quicker and smoother changes).

Pre FL have retractable COMAND screen on dash. FL has built in screen.

FL has launch launch / race start. Pre FL does not.

I think that's about it.

Other than the interiors there isnt really a great differnce between the two. FL has launch control but Pre FL wont overheat. Pre FL does 99% of everything that the FL does at 80-90% of the cost. Will you notice a huge difference when driving? Not really. Do they look that different? Not really. The interior is noticeably the biggest difference.

A white C63 AMG.

Exterior -

Some cars pull off this colour (white) rather well and others simply don't. Imo the the C63 looks at its best in a dark colour. I think this car looks so much better (and more aggressive) in black <3!

Apart from the colour I think it looked absolutely stunning. "Aggressive" and "menacing"... These are the only two words to describe the look of this car. With its flared wheel arches and quad exhaust exits.. it's overall stance is fantastic.

Interior -

The first thing that stuck out was the dash. To be honest I find the dash in my car far better looking and more modern. In short, I thought it looked rather dated and bland. But hey, who takes on a car like this to admire the interior?

The second thing that stood out was the car's infotainment system. "COMMAND" I believe it's called. The version I experienced (short experience) in this car was in now way shape or form, on par with the idrive system in my car.... Perhaps it's a little unfair for me to compare the two systems. As the system in mine is much younger than the one used in the merc (the c63 came it in 2008 iirc). I just thought the interface looked a bit clunky and lacked smoothness.... Again I only used the system for a matter or minutes.

Tech / Clever stuff -

I was told this particular car was fairly standard. The car came with the following :
  • Fully electric steats
  • heated seats
  • cruise control
  • standard speaker set up
  • Bluetooth
  • usb and iPhone connection
Overall I was fairly impressed with the standard kit. I think I'd be surprised if I wasn't. This car retails at well over 50k (brand new). So it had better be bloody impressive.

The Driving Exp -

After a lengthy (and much appreciated) overview of the car. I was given an invitation to take the car for a spin - not literally... Thank God!

Starting this car up is so much more than just turning the key and then setting off. It felt more like an EVENT. It starts with a violent roar. I'm not exaggerating.... But the car certainly was. It's as if it's sending out a warning to everyone within 50 metre radius. You can't help but take notice!

Before driving this car I admired it. After taking my seat and starting her up. I felt threatened by it. I was concerned for my wellbeing and for a split second questioned whether or not I could drive this car without any fuss.

Off I went... Down a small road and then entered onto a main road. It was then I realised that managing the 450bhp + in slow areas wasn't going to be as chaotic as imagined smile . It felt surprisingly easy to drive.

So after some minor stop and go traffic I was directed onto the M1 smile..... Where on more than once occasion i was encouraged to red line it... I took it up to 6 of 7 or so thousand revs before chickening out. It was too much for me to take in... The effortless pace, the raw unadulterated sound of that V8 engine, the cracks and bangs from the exhaust. It was too full on.... I both loved and feared it!

This is by far the best car I've driven to date. There's something very raw, naughty, brutal and **** offy about it lol. Is there anything else like it? If so point it out.

To all those who own or have owned this car. I salute you. This car is awesome lol

Come to the dark side!!!!!!!

Have it as my daily driver!
Love the start and love the end when parked for a quick look over the shoulder!

Running it in currently, 600 miles does waiting to breach the 1000miles before I give it some heavy right foot!!

The car really suits either dark silver, black or white. I'd have gone for white but ended up with black.

Love the car as it reminds me of the old school muscle cars!

Get it bought you wont regret it.
The tuning potential on these cars is massive too.
If you buy a "standard" 450bhp car a simple remap will push it to 510BHP!!!! And then the fun really starts.
Had mine coming up to 2 years, and every time i start it I smile.

I've been looking for one as well, and even though i had my mind set on a pp coupe, i've looked at saloons as well
I first wanted a black car but I have seen them all in the flesh now and for once i think colour doesn't matter on this car, it looks great in all colors.

I wanted a pp car but a standard car with a remap easily reaches pp performance and you will have more choice to look from.
Wheels? Get 19"s or get standard and fit your own? Again there are a variety of wheels out there that suit the car.

saloon or coupe, for me still a coupe as i have a DD and if i get a saloon the wife will just nag me to get rid of one and MY C63 would soon become HER DD, so no thanks!!
Although I actually think the saloon looks much better than the coupe.

If buying non PP cars the choice is vast and the prices vary greatly so you can afford to take your pick.
I'm not in a hurry so I'll buy when the right car comes along.

Merc dealerships are offering £1-£2k off the sticker price as well, so lots of cars accessible within your budget.
Good Luck

Following this topic with great interest. I’m also looking for a new daily driver and have the M135i and a pre-FL C63 estate on my list.

Price is similar here where I live, running costs for the C63 are probably twice that of the M135i but you only live once. biggrin

My main concern is the weight of the C63. I hope to test drive one soon but are the 1750 kg very noticeable?

What draws me to the C63 glorious combination of engine and usability (for the estate) while maintaining relatively stealthy looks compared to cars with similar output.
And since the cars handling was often compared to cars of the caliber of a E92 M3 surely it can’t feel like a big barge.

I plan/hope to do so in the near future.

Just researching costs and whether or not decent examples or available within my budget!

I'm in love

I had no idea such gains were possible with N/A engines. Has yours been mapped? If so how big is the difference?

Actually, a Eurocharged V4 map will see you at 525 / 530bhp not 510.

My 2010 pre FL PPP car has a stage 1 EC map and a Quaife diff. 0-60 in 4.0s so far but i know it can do sub 4s (just needs traction). The map is very noticeable, especially on a standard non PPP car with 457bhp. PPP cars have 487bhp as standard (mine dyno'd at 489bhp before the map) so 525 isn't a huge gain in the scheme of things. That said, you do feel the improved urgency and ability.

MB restricted the C63 to 90% throttle (457bhp) so it would not be quicker than the flagship E63. So a Re-map simply opens this up to 100% (and a bit more tweaking here and there.
Mine went from 457 to 534BHP with a Carbinio Intake and a Eurocharged re map.
The tuning potential is massive and really just depends on how willing you are to part with cash and what you are comfortable with.
I took the plunge and installed a Weistec Supercharger (Stage 2) so mine Dynos at 714BHP........No faster than any C63 round the twisty roads but in a straight line it takes your breath away

Lee, surely any power gain is nullified by the bags of cement you have to put in the boot to stop it taking off? Over 700bhp, Christ on a bike!

Of the two I'd go for the C63. No questions asked.

With regards to running costs (monies spent on petrol to be more specific). I dont expect it to be that much high as I only drive during the weekends.

The M135I is a decent car. Fast, well equipped and comfy. Problem is that it doesnt feel, sound or look special enough for me.

700bhp+ :|

I think that would take more than just my breath away.... It would have my freedom confiscated too lol

Looks great. How loud is the SC?

Its actually surprising how "useable" the power is, traction is a bit of an issue but once it hooks up it digs in and pushes you back hard.
I have surprised and upset a few bikers (I have a blade myself so i know how quick "fat" bikes are). It has a Quaife diff fitted, and KW DDC suspension which helps it handle the power.

This was a clip of the sound from outside when it was stage 1 (so only 630BHP then)
