Anyone tried one of the latest 700bhp & 700ft/lbs remaps. It got a great write up in the latest Evo on a CLS63 AMG so for the price I am seriously considering on my SL63 AMG. But before I take the plunge I am just interested in other experiences. I had a DMS on a previous 996TT that I could change from the OBD port but the current remap requires an engineer visit.

700ft/lbs at 4krpm anyone?

I would also consider a re-map from Eurocharged.

I am sure you can get a tuning box which piggy backs the ECU these days.....The benefit of this is if you need to do any warranty work you just remove the tuning box.

Speak with Acid at MSL Performance I am sure he has fitted a couple of tuning boxes and is also a authorized Eurocharged and Weistec dealer.

Mine has a tuning box fitted (E63), a couple of pictures on Merc Forums HERE

I didn't fancy an ECU remap as, certainly at the time, it involved opening the ECU which is going to invalidate any warranty. It's now making nearly 100bhp over standard, but the main difference is the torque curve. Effortless overtaking ability and so smooth and instant response. I also seem to get better economy (if that's a word you can use with these) out of it. Initially there was a bit of a flat spot with it under harsh acceleration, but this seemed to disappear after a few hundred miles of it "learning".

It's actually in a box in my garage at the moment as the car goes for it's first service next week and I don't think MB would have been too pleased to see it nesting under the bonnet, but it will be back on straight after (probably on the 9th August Lee) as I'm missing it. That's the beauty of these things, basically plug and play. I may have it re-set this time as apparently the boxes themselves are highly adjustable.

Another £47 on my insurance which I think is a small price to pay as well.

Acid at MSL performance comes highly recommended by me also.

ive got the dms remap
700 +plus 734 lb tq (1000nm)
It's turned a fast car into a very fast car.
No idea what the top speed is (...vmax ?)
I love it.
I know dms are not the cheapest but they open the ecu properly and don't drill it like some other tuners.
Don't think I'd like bits of plastic and casing flying around my circuit board!!!
I'm in Hants if you are local and want to see the difference.
I test drove a vantage v12 s last week and the cls is IMO the faster (but softer ) car

Unfortunately I am in York but thanks for the offer and the feedback - that's just what I wanted to hear. I have been exchanging emails with DMS and they have quoted a great price and will come to my place to do it. Seems a bit of a no brainer for the extra power/torque!

DMS are a good company.......you should get yourself down to MSL on the 10th August there is a big Dyno day / MB Club get together and will be plenty of powerful AMG's down there on the day. great bunch of guys and always a good laugh.

Any performance work needs doing on mine and I drive down to MSL in Birmingham from Newcastle!!!

DMS quoted me £2,500 + VAT when I enquired (and they wanted the car for 8-10 hours only at their base down South). Hopefully the price they offered you was better than that!!

I've tried a piggyback unit, circa 620bhp, (hi daventy - it's mike with the other grey E63 wink), but I suffered from nasty gearbox/clutchslip when in manual (which I use all the time).

All the kick-in-the-back urgency was lost while the gearbox slipped and the car caught up afterwards. The car was quicker without the box as the gearbox was then solid again.

There were no issues in "auto" as the box would kick down reducing the torque loading, but I dont like autos so don't use it. In manual it holds the gear and would slip in 3rd and above. Felt just like driving a manual car with a knackered clutch. Took the piggyback off and no issues.

Top marks to acid at MSL for the install and backup service though.

There were no other reports of clutchslipping from the manufacturers, but equally they said "but nobody else uses manual mode" frown

I would think the same issue would apply to any HP upgrade.

Hi Mike wavey Still not got my splitter sorted...

I'm back down to have my box re-fitted on the 9th August (car just had it's first service so had to remove it) if you fancy a look?

As for the prices, no idea really what these are as we were guinea pigs for them. Mine worked absolutely fine from day one, apart from an initial flat spot which seemed to resolve itself quite quickly, though 90% + of the time it's in S and not manual.

No idea what DMS charge either, though it sounds like the OP got a good deal. Hope it works out well for you, nice that it's on a CLS as well. smile

Hello Dave, sorry Off Topic, but did you get my PM on MBclub forum? (The trim you're missing is bodycoloured) For some reason my sent PMs don't go in the sent folder so I don't know what I've sent!!

Back On topic, Would be nice to know what current prices DMS are doing.

As for the Piggybacks, weren't Eurocharged doing them for £1000?

Mine is a SL not a CLS - sorry. It's a weekend toy so I also tend to just leave it in S or S+ and not really use the manual so hopefully fine on the clutch but thanks for the heads up - I will ask them about any prior experience. Yes a substantial reduction from the headline price has been offered and they will come to me which is ideal. I like the idea of a clean install and from a reputable company but a separate box is also fine if it gives the same gains but not seen anyone provide similar performance gains.

I am waiting for the response to a few final questions and a call from MSL to see what alternatives are available before placing the order but looks likely that I will go with DMS and get it fitted later this month. Will give an update once done.

Got it Mike thanks. They've just phoned me this morning (car was in for service with them on Wednesday) to say that they have now got the correct trim. 4 months later. It's in gloss black but they say they'll paint it whatever colour I want. (I think the gloss black may look good so I'm going to try it before I make a decision) To be honest, I still don't think they have the correct part but we'll have a look on Monday for a laugh.

Don't know where I got CLS from, so apologies for that. Mine's running at just over 550bhp at the rear wheels with the tuning box fitted, which conservatively equates to 650 at the flywheel. I'm back down at Acid's place (MSL) next month so I'll see what a bit of tweaking can do to it.

As I mentioned earlier, mine shows no ill effects at all with the box on, it's that Mike hammering his motor everywhere in manual which broke his. biglaugh

Best of luck with whatever you decide, and keep us informed with figures and performance. Oh, and start saving for rear tyres. smile

You did - we must be in a quite small and elite group now. I never asked how many of these cars had been done but Rob - the DMS MD turned up to do the work with a couple of spare ECUs (very reassuring but clearly not needed). He did both the SL and the Mrs Mini JCW (she wasn't around and doesn't know biggrin - the remap is now on the Sport button).

The SL is so smooth until you press the loud pedal then the horses of the apocalypse grab the car and just keep pulling and pulling. I wasn't expecting such an improvement over an already fast car but was pleasantly surprised. I was concerned about hesitation and flat spots from a previous Porsche remap experience but shouldn't have been - remap development has moved on and the map is perfect. Also enjoyed chatting with Rob and watching him do the work.

Would certainly recommend them to anyone else considering their services.
