After a lot of umming and ahhing, I've decided I need to finally follow my heart and get an AMG CL.
Seen a couple of nice examples (CL63's). Anything in particular I should be aware of when looking at prospective cars?

Thanks

Start with the discs and pads - £2k a set at the front. Mine will need them doing soonish so I guess any car with more than 30k miles on may need them changing in the near future.

Also check the spec closely and that all the whizzy electrics work properly - they are high spec to start with but there are many extras that could be added to the order.

Check all four alloys as they are prone to the dreaded white corrosion on the diamond cut face, like many Mercs with that style of AMG alloy. Allegedly they are hard to refurb, but I'll find out soon as all four of mine are showing signs - on a well looked after car 2009 car that has only done 25k miles!

I'd say a MB extended warranty is a must. My car went back to have the oil level sensor changed as it was reporting low oil even though it wasn't low. The job required the sump off but all covered by the warranty.

Other than that, not much else springs to mind. I've had mine two years and it really is one of the best cars I've ever owned - a lot of car for the money. The noise is intoxicating but that does mean my mpg is probably less than most!

It took us two years to find the car we wanted, with the spec to match that of the CL55 it replaced. They are a very rare car and you'll be amazed at home many people hang out of vans and cars to look at it and take pictures! I'm amazed - it gets more attention than my orange Aston did!laugh

It is probably worth mentioning this car is Super Unleaded only, officially 98RON (you may already know). Mine gets Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power whenever possible ....

My car came from MB of Poole, had 12.5k miles on the clock and was previously owned by Graham Souness! biggrin (which didn't impress my Everton-supporting father-in-law! wink)

Thanks for the reply - very helpful. Your car looks lovely btw. I'm also looking for a black one.

Got my eye on two - an 07 plate with 15k on the clock, and a 58 with 22k.
Difference in price between the two is about £3000. Leaning toward the 58 plate as it has a nicer interior and (or rather the interior I'd want!)

Feel free to PM me the links if you want me to look at the specs for any obvious big differences.

I'd be tempted by the latter car if the specs are similar, simply because 07 was pretty much the first cars to ship to the UK and I prefer to give MB time to iron out any issues ...! wink

Pm sent.

There's also a 58 plate CL65 on autotrader for a bit more money, but the exterior colour isn't what I'm after unfortunately. Also is a 65 really worth around £5000 more than a 63? Can't justify it myself but I could be wrong

PM received smile

Assuming the car you mentioned in the PM is straight and genuine, that seems a pretty reasonable price for that age and spec (at least from my experience). The price might reflect the number of previous owners. Not much missing that I can see, when compared to mine and the original owner of my car seemed to tick every box except the Harmon Kardon upgrade!

I'd want a full MB service history and a good warranty too. With that low a mileage, a nice clean engine bay too wink Mine was spotless and looked like it had just left the factory! biggrin

Re the CL65, it is a rare car. I've only ever seen one and that was in the dealership when we picked up our car.
