Bit shocked today. Im used to dealers being stealers etc but Im a little put out by this. The pint of milk thead sets the stall out with regards the E and SL. Hand over deposit money sunday for the E (new factory build) against written figures. The SL is new but in stock. This is north of £100k of metal in 2 new cars.
Chap now comes back saying the figures were wrong and payment will have to change. Oh and still no specs on the SL or wanting to discuss those figures.

Thoughts chaps?

Did u get any paperwork on Sunday? Check the small print on it. I fear they may have wiggle room to change the price. Raise it with manager, if no joy, take your money elsewhere. I'd be surprised if they let you walk away. It's a big sale! Good luck!

Well Merc in Leics and Cov have had long and painful experience in dealing with my wife so they really should have learnt by now. She has already specced and priced up the XF Sport back and Jag just happen to produce something called an F Type...

What really rankles with me though is thw blase attitude. Maybe in a world of oil rich everybody my measly 100k+ order is pissant change but Im a Blackpool boy made slightly less chavvy. Its a stload to me and Id rather like somebody to accept and respect that.

I had a dealer shake on a deal for a C63, but I didn't sign as I needed to rush off to meet my family.

Phone call an hour later "Sorry we cannot supply a car at that price". No offer of a new price or any kind of further discussion.

Bought it elsewhere, not quite as cheap but close enough and a pleasure to deal with Birmingham Central who supplied the car in the end.

Do we have any Merc dealer boys on here who would love some custom and respect that some of us are repeat customers.

Maybe they have and hence the price change wink

If the guy made a genuine error then you can either accept or walk - your choice but they won't honour. If a blatant attempt to just increase the margin then take your money elsewhere. Only you (and the salesman) will know what was said and why the change now.

Hmmm....even if there's a contract in place and money has changed hands? Do the order T's & C's allow the customer to cancel without penalty?

After a BMW dealer was reminded of this by our company legal guy they suddenly found they were able to supply a new 5 Series at the agreed price - even though they'd sold the one the deal was done on to someone else.

A contract is a contract: once made, it would be unusual if one party were unilaterally able to change a fundamental term such as the price to suit himself.
