Hi all

I am on the market for a c63 estate with performance pack...
I know that limits my choice by quite a bit but am in no rush.

Budget is 30k max.

There's a nice one on eBay but it's the very top end of budget but miles are on 54k, I regrettably just missed out on a lovely one for 29k with 30,000 miles, due to me trying to barter a little too hard. And there is one with 67k with all options ticked including LSD.
The latter concerns me a little not just because of the high mileage but the service history has a gap between 12 and 37k miles, albeit the services were only 8 months apart?!?
Would anyone consider a car with such a big gap between services? It's just been serviced by Mercedes and they have reassured me it's got a full clean bill of health?!? But would they really be able to tell that there's excessive wear inside the engine?
Would it all be possible that it was in fact 25000 miles before the merc on board computer told it it needed serviced?
Really know little about any issues with the 63 amg cars but presume there pretty reliable?

Sorry for all the questions but any advice would be very much appreciated.

Or if anyone is considering selling please email me or message on here.

Thanks

Jamie

Hi

I have a PPP fully loaded and have 37k miles now.

I would not worry in the least. If the car did such high mileage in such a short time, it probably was used for long commutes or driving to and from a job in Europe etc. I.E. It probably did most of that on the motorway based on the fact that to do such high mileage in such a short time it must have been motorway....

I did over 10k miles in mine in three months...

Drive it for an extended test yourself. I know its hard in a new car to try and tell what is what so maybe take someone that has a C63 with you to drive it - where about are you?

The face lift cars are strong with not many weak parts.

CHECK THE DISCS. I have just replaced all of the disks on mine - not cheap!!!

Hi

Thanks for the response. That's promising.

I believe the guy did a lot of travelling across Europe going to the F1's, hence the high mileage.

I'm based in Cumbria so miles away from any of the propositions, the one I'm talking about with the 67k is in Gloucestershire.

So it would be a case of spending the day going to view and go for a run in it. It is a private sale which adds to the concern.

My estate had 69K on it and was about 3.5 years old when I got it. I've since added a further 6k and had no issues whatsoever with the car. These engines are relatively unstressed most of the time and provided they are serviced on schedule reliability should be good.

More reassurance, but what is your service history like? Has it any biggish gaps in terms of miles?

Entries in the Previous Destinations on the Sat Nav can give a few clues to what the car has been up to and whether it checks out with what the seller is telling you. I once looked at a car purported to be an ex MB Head Office car. It had relatively low mileage and although well prepped/detailed the interior was just that tiny bit scruffy with a few scrapes on the door sills and the trim of the footwell. The Sat Nav had not one entry in it. I straight away smelled an ex track day car and walked away.

Interesting, or he kept deleting entries of all his internet mistresses in fear of wife seeing them...

So really the brakes could make or break the deal, ...

He offered to give me number of last Mercedes garage that has only just recently serviced it to call them so that might be an option, tho would they check brakes on a service?

Hi

They will check the brakes for discs and pads nearing wear limit.

Find out what the disc thickness should be and take a cheap plastic vernier with you and measure. very easy to do. (if the seller is okay with it)
If you get stuck let me know and I will measure my new ones and the old one.

Alternatively run your nail along the disk from center to outside and judge how much 'lip' there is. These discs need hardly any lip before needing replacement.

Also look at the vent holes in the discs.... lots of cracking? A little cracking is normal and show spirited or track driving (they all crack a bit when they get hot). A lot of cracking is bad and shows abuse.

If anything it might give you negotiating power...

So you have 37k on yours and have had to change the discs? So realistically with 67 they might be needing there 3rd set..

Anyone live near Gloucester by any chance redface

Hi Likesachange,

Good luck with your search, I too am in the market for a C63 Estate. Not too fussed about the PPP/LSD options, but am looking for a low miles estate car, preferably still bought from Main Dealer so they give a standard 12 months warranty on it.

Good luck, hope you're in a C63 estate soon!

I'm north Oxfordshire, not far from Silverstone with a 2011 pre-facelift (non PPP) with just under 30k if you fancied a nose around.

Lalli, thanks hope you also succeed in finding the right car. Seems your choice on the market is greater than mine, let us know how you get on.

Thanks for that but I'm in Cumbria frown

The Gloucester qoute was because that's where the car in question is situated.. It's a long way to find that it is a dog.

No probs. We bought from a main dealer 18 months ago for peace of mind and then extended the warranty as ours just turned 3. So far all it's needed is a new set of rear rubber in 15,000 miles.
