Hi chaps, bit of an update and a couple of questions now I've lived with the car for just over a month now. So far, really enjoying life with the CLS SB. Wife loves it (which is saying something as she hates estate cars normally). Whilst it's not really chuckable its clearly not that sort of car and is so smooth, comfortable and generally a really lovely place to be. The interior ambiance and general quality feel standout for me - maybe the lighter interior helps here but it does feel expensive inside. I also really like the looks myself, I'm sure its not everyone's cup of tea but I think it looks pretty cool and a bit unique. I even had thumbs up from a few passing cars which wasn't expected at all!

I bought the Mercedes fitted boot floor protector and a dog bag (one of these) which just about fits in the boot but is flexible enough to allow me to squash the top down slightly to fit the CLS's lower roofline. The car is pretty much protected from the dog now meaning my weekly clean out of the boot is a doddle! Also purchased the Thule roof bars so can sling my bikes on the roof as needed.

Ref the rattles BigBrin mentioned, touch wood, mine appears to be rattle free. Only time I've really heard anything was when I had the boot cover pulled over and hit a drain or something in the road. Generally it seems really well built. Did you manage to get yours sorted?

As mentioned, have a few questions

1. Intelligent Light System - love this however I do seem to get flashed by other drivers quite a lot. I've got the lights set to 'traffic on the left' so that they are angled into the kerb but still get flashed. Is there a way to adjust these down slightly?

2. Sat Nav volume - can this be linked to the Stereo volume? I seem to be able to adjust the sat nav volume up or down but it's independent of the stereo volume. Therefore if I turn the stereo up I can't hear the sat nav until I then turn that up. Then if I turn the stereo down the sat nav volume stays loud and gives you a heart attack.

3. Active Park Assist - Seems this only works if parking on the left, is there a way to park on the right using this? Assume not but thought I'd check.

4. Eco - do you guys leave this on? Find it a bit frustrating myself. Is there a way to stop it defaulting to on?

5. Are there any winter tyre options for the 19" wheel? Tried a few places online but showing nothing available.

Cheers
Graham

lights- I know what you mean, a walker will get blinded, cars have never flashed me but setting it to the left? Not seen that setting

Sat Nav, just adjust it when it is saying something

park assist- only on the left I believe

I too have been flashed, guess it's just cos the beam is quite bright.
The stop start, I can't figure out... It works whenever it wants to on my '63.
Quite often when I'm waiting for it to cut out it doesn't and the dash says its inactive for some reason.

can't answer all your questions but i can answer these two.

to get it to park on the right, i think i read somewherre that you simply have to put your indicator to indicate right, but you also need to be driving 'at stalking speed' over on the right hand side as well.

on the winter tyre front, they do exist as i have just bought some.

they are pirelli sottozero's. i think i'm paying £900 for all four to have mine fitted mid december.

there are other options - have a look at www.mytyres.co.uk

As for question 4, unfortunately there isn't anything you can do to stop it defaulting to ECO mode unfortunately.

I now automatically change to S mode as soon as I start the car (This is on an E Class but pretty much the same AFAIK).

I also agree with Rob ^^ about the indicator on the parking thing, though I've never used it. frown

The rattles in mine are still there and a week or so after it came back from the dealer, and my trying to imagine them away, I've given up and I have booked it back in. The rattles are present at low speeds on crappy road surfaces. Cruising speed is no issue...No question the car is stunning to look at and carries huge prestige (imho). I am getting more fond of the car and finally two months in have got the driving position comfortable. But the left knee position is awkward as there is a 'lip' on the trim. I get flashed by other cars at dusk and dawn. I did wonder if there was something wrong with the active light system and it was cross eyed.

You could say owning this CLS is like picking up with a great looker but she grinds her teeth in her sleep. If you start to get used to each other you might forgive it, or it might just be too irritating to live with. I'm at the stage where if the looker doesn't stop grinding her teeth I will be letting her go. The irritation is just too much to commit to in a long term partnership.
