RS6 Avant v CLS63
Discussion
The search for a new car goes on!
Given up on finding the right CL63, so now tempted by an RS6 estate (it's a box that needs ticking at some stage!) and a CLS63. The Audi would be around a 2009 model with the 700BHP ecu remap. CLS around 2011. There is a difference in price of around £10k, but that's not a massive issue.
Has anyone owned/driven both? If so which is the better car in terms of performance and comfort? I will be using it everyday, mainly on the motorway (20 mile trip each way).

Hi.
I drove a standard v10 rs6 a while back,the new model recently and a 5.5 cls amg estate and an e63 6.2 car .
for what its worth the new rs6 is miles ahead of such cars as the amg estates/cayenne turbo etc,but its a different kettle of fish when it comes to the v10 version.
I am assuming that the cls you are talking about will be the n/a engine ,so I am basing my comments on that.
The rs v10 is a far more useable performance car than the equivalent amg model, the 4wd means it just goes,it offers phenomenal grip and is one of the best ways of covering ground quickly and safely. However the handling is poor and the steering average. The amg merc with the n/a engine steers better and handles better ..but is that relevant for bombing up and down motorways ? The /a engine model I prefer to the new 5.5 engines, there is no lag and because you have less torque the rear tyres are not overwhelmed as much and you get more traction..also the new engine because its turbocharged along with an relatively old gearbox causes that issue of putting your foot down and waiting for the gear to change down and then the turbos to spool up ,so for me it is not a good combination ..the 6.2 engine is much more enjoyable.
I slightly prefer the merc interior ,but the audi interior wears very well,I run an allroad as an everyday car and after 65k miles the interior is still like new.
the big factor for me is a friend of mine ran a r6 v10 with 750bhp ,he loved it for its useablity but sold it because he could not bear the running costs (and this is someone who has a ferrari daytona,an f40, a 458 and a panamera turbo and carrera gt.(he could not bear it mentally not financially) ...very expensive if anything goes wrong and I think he was getting below 10mpg.
personally id would take the cls 63 with n/a engine ,but you really need to try them to see how you feel,an rs6 with 750bhp is mental quick and addictive in a straightline ,just no fun in twisties.

The new rs6 is ridiculous improvement over the old one .
