I made a couple of calls to local dealers and to my surprise they could all get me a GTS for november delivery. I thought these would be sold out well into 2016 but it appears not

We visited MB AMG in Poole today hankering after a GT. Having tested the SL63 a year back and found it to be too tame, this seemed like a good choice.

The coupé, they couldn't get their hands on one until Jan 2016 with only 50 available (not sure if that was the whole of the UK or just that group) and wouldn't have one for a test drive.

The cabriolet (which I'm really interested in) won't be out in the Uk for 4-5 years! Bugger!

Still, I have the brochures and specs to read over and over again at bedtime :-O

P.S Blatant ad I know, however I won't be using my personal plate if anyone is interested (GT15FUN). PM me.

I bet that would change after you actually ordered one and the dealer actually established where you'd be in the UK list - my dealer was sure I'd get one for May when I placed the order yet this subsequently became September!

Palmball thanks for the info..I must have missed the later launch for the GT which is what I have ordered so this supports what the dealer has advised verbally. Awaiting confirmation in writing before I commit the spec - what have they asked you for a deposit as I have been told £5k but also £10k has been muted?

Does anyone know if you have the option to sell on your slot under MB or would you just lose the deposit? 12 months is along time to wait and you never know what might come up 😁

Tel I was told that Poole had a spare slot as someone had pulled their GT order. That was Saturday when I went in. Just waiting for written confirmation on my order

Thanks for the heads-up. They didn't mention it, having said that, we seem to never speak to the same person when we pop in as they have a high turnover of sales people. We seem to attract the "I've only been here a week, fresh form BMW and don't know the range well'' brigade which doesn't bode too well.

That said, the chap we did end up speaking to seemed to know his stuff who was Mike the Transaction Manager. I think we will be holding out for a convertible...

The convertible might not be out until 2017.......I understand that US launch for GT-S is after ours (UK) in Q3 2015, with US GT launch in Q1 2016. MB will be adding to the option lists from Q2 2015 - for the next 18 months or so in conjunction with the car releases - with the Convertible to follow (GT-S an GT models) - followed by a "Black Series" model.

It sounds to me like the GT is going to be a full production run (7 years +), unlike the SLS (4 years), with continual development and a whole "family"......

Bodes well for us punters.....

Just been told that my car delivery is slipping to June. Not very happy at all. Apparently, so I have been informed, that RHD dealer cars are being built in April - then shipping to UK.

My build date is now 31/05/2015 with the car arriving at the dealership on 15/06/201. I think that MB need to get their sh*t together, pretty quickly.

Not a satisfactory experience at all......

Has anyone seen the different colour choices panels in real life? I live in London so wondering if MB Chelsea have them as I know a lot of people have ordered from there? My order is with MB Lincoln and I'd like to see the metallic and Designo Selenite Grey & Silver and the metallic Magnetite Black before I lock the order down and I'm struggling to make a final decision between the 5! Yes I'm a monochromist....

MB Chelsea didn't have the designo grey's when I was at the showroom giving them my number plate retention certificate.....however - hot off the press there will be a AMG GT-S at Mercedes world tomorrow Tuesday 20th for one day only. Not sure what colour it will be (I hope it's not that horrid yellow......) - but I understand it's the edition 1 model.

I'm going to pop down tomorrow morning to have a look with my other half......

Yes I saw the yellow one there a while back. Bit larey. Most of the Edition 1's I've seen on the net are grey.

Perhaps it might be on a little UK tour that i could intercept it on Saturday. Any intel gratefully received!

Just a heads up folks. The one at MB World today is not an Edition 1 as hoped, it's a normal GT S finished in the designo iridium silver magno(matt) with a grey/black leather interior.

Also to say it is only here for today, it returns back to Germany afterwards. There is hope that MB World will have an early car to display from around mid-March. More to follow in June.

Just back from MB world. As Petrolveins says - it wasn't the Edition 1 (which I'm very glad - not my cup of tea!) - but the Designo Iridium Silver Magno looked truly magnificent - and will look amazing in the sunlight - and I suspect in a flat light. Which is good - as that is what colour I have ordered. The car had the standard wheels, with Steel brakes and red callipers. I've spec'd the forged alloys with carbon ceramic brakes. That means you have to have the gold callipers - which I have asked if I ken get resprayed to a different colour. The car also had the panoramic roof ( I think the premium pack was installed on the car- which looked great - and from the inside really opened up the "cockpit" - with a manually sliding cover to block off the sunlight. The car had the exterior carbon pack - which included the wing mirrors, the rear diffuser and the front splitter. The CF looked good and almost subtle - not to over the top - which worked well.

The interior, as mentioned previously, was a black/mid grey, with silver stitching. The MB folks weren't sure if the seats were the standard or sports seats, but based on what I saw, looked were actually the sports seats.....go figure! The interior had High Gloss Carbon Fibre - in the centre of the tunnel, the doors, door pockets and kick plates. The Speedo/Tacho had Carbon effect weave in the centre of dials. The steering wheel was leather and alcantara - and felt really good to touch. The outside of the central tunnel was a high gloss black, which with the 8 buttons/switch looked very good and felt of a high quality/satisfying to the touch. I'm not sure about the durability/scratch resistance of this high gloss black finish - especially if you have a ring/jewellery etc. But it was a "nice place to be" - it felt "snug" - but was actually quite roomy. There was also a luggage brace behind the seats - which was body coloured (I think) - but I've ordered mine in Carbon, of course!

Then at 12:15 they started the engine - initially in quiet mode (i.e. normal mode) - and it sounded good to me - like a refined, not too contrived, V8 burble. They revved it a little bit, still in quiet mode (the car wasinside - upstairs on the second floor) and it sounded good - very purposeful, yet without too much theatricals. If you owned an SLS/AMG Black Series - you may be a little disappointed - but not too much. Then midway through - they put car into Sport mode (basically opening the butterfly valves/exhaust flaps - or noisy mode) - and it sounded magnificent! Immediately the difference was noticeable. It was much deeper, like an angry baritone with a bad chest cold. And when I say that I was surprised by the noise - I'm not joking - the car was spitting, crackling, popping on the overrun - I've got a video - I'll figure out how to post it today! You'll love it. Oh - the guys also raised the spoiler which, to mind at least, looks so much better than the fixed rear spoiler. I approve!

There were a couple of questions about the various greys/magno's etc. For the first time - I saw the whole selection of colour swabs - and Iridum Designo Magno looked fantastic - as did the Black(s). I think even the white would work well - with the night pack and the black forged alloys. I think that MB has a hit on it's hands - and as much as I love the SLS - the GT-S makes the SLS looked really quite antiquated and dated - which REALLY surprised me.

I'll post some pics up (the car was under LED's and I only had my iPhone - I didn't take my camera - which was a mistake....).

Cheers

A
