Has anyone gone for the high end Burmeister sound system? It the final piece I'm deciding on but I don't know if it's worth it.

I'm going for the ordinary GT S wheels too and I agree I like the part black versions on the Edition 1 although I believe it's easy to have them customized to look the same.
I ordered the high end stereo.....

I would avoid the Burmester option, I had one on a Cayenne Turbo and it was vert average, nowhere near as good as standard Range Rover speakers. Probably better to have the standard audio and if it's not good enough take it to a specialist who should be able to upgrade it for a fraction of the Burmester price.
Good advice, thanks

I would pick the Burmester 3D without a doubt. On my new S Class it is a fantastic system, better than my friends Panameras Burmester. It may be different on the AMG GTS, but the S Coupé and the S Class have Burmester 3D Systems I would pay for without thinking.

I have ordered Burmester 3D, with some trepidation I must add. This is because the £5k B&O option in the SLS was appalling (as you may have seen me mention once or twice elsewhere wink ) so I have seen AMG get this very wrong....and cost certainly isn't a guarantee of success.

However, as has been mentioned, Mercedes do seem to have got their Burmester systems right as what I've heard in the new S class is outstanding (at least for a factory-fit audio system). Obviously you'd probably be able to do better with a load of aftermarket kit which would no doubt feature better quality components but then I suspect you'd have to spend appreciably more and also rip apart your nice new car to get there....not something I'd want to do!

Still, I suspect the system in the GT won't sound as good as the one I heard in the GT for a couple of reasons. Firstly, being SLS-based the GT won't have the frontbass system (where the subs are placed in the front bulkhead footwells in many of their newer cars) and instead it'll have a sub in the boot. Secondly, I expect the smaller cabin won't be too great for acoustics.

Anyone see Top Gear tonight?

They had the F-Type R and the Jags' lap time adds some context to just how good the GT's lap time was - despite nearly 10% more power, the F-type was 4 seconds slower than the AMG (1.21 vs 1.17).

Quite irrelevant really as I'm certainly not a good enough driver for it to make any difference to me. It does however highlight just how good AMG appear to have designed the chassis on their car.

Any updates on delivery dates for those lucky enough to be getting one of the first ones?

I was up at MB Poole on Friday and their demo car has moved from March to June.

Not sure how that relates to delivery dates.

March to June for their demo!?!

Good lord, AMG are trying my patience with this car (and I suspect others too). That's knocking on 8 months after the initial reviews.

I could have got the wrong end if the stick whilst I was there, but I also thought I heard that first deliveries had slipped to September.

As I said, might have misheard that!

Yep saw the F type on top gear. I sat in one in the Berkeley sq showroom. Didn't do it for me at all. Interior is budget..

Does put the GT S time in perspective. I'm looking forward to seeing if the British car mags confirm its abilities in head to heads; and yes abilities that I agree, I'm not good enough to fully explore. But nice to know its there...

My delivery date is still May 20 as far as I know. Would not be happy if it has slipped to sept...

I went for selenite grey, premium pack & Diamond black interior trim, & black leather in the end. Simple really. I was looking again at the spec and it doesn't seem to have adaptive cruise control which is a bit odd as it does have the radar assisted collision avoidance thing. I got quite used to having that, handy for a long motorway slog.

You don't really 'need' much more than the premium pack to be fair.

I've sent a note to my dealer to ask if they know of my August date slipping....I hope not as I don't fancy waiting until what would be Christmas!

The adaptive cruise, as I understand it, will come on cars (at extra cost, as part of the driving assistance package) built after June....I guess one of the advantages of having a later build car. The package price does go up from £1k to £1.7k to reflect that though.

Agree on the irrelevance for normal punters like me, but 4 seconds is a surprisingly (and pleasingly?) large gap.

My delivery date has actually come forward 5 days to the 20th April. Here's hoping it stays that way!

Looking back on my visit, what I may have heard was that some very recent orders were getting September delivery.

Ah right. Good knowledge. Might see if I can get it added after market somehow.

I have a solution for you....we can swap orders! You get mine with factory fit radar cruise and I get yours.....in May wink

On a serious note, my dealer has confirmed today that my delivery date is still showing as August which is god news. Seems their demo isn't due until June anyway so looks like many customers will be getting their cars before the dealers get their demo's.

Haha. That's very kind of you but I sold my golf R today so I need to minimize my exposure to the misery of public transport....

They won't change anything. I asked if I could have the normal GT leather steering wheel without the Terry-toweling bits but they wouldn't budge. What's your spec Sir?

Hi pal,

My spec is not yet locked down; my dealer has given me till the end of march; however my spec is:

ed 1
magno grey
black forged alloys
dynamic package

I had heard the distrionic would be available from June build onwards on this forum amongst others.

paid my deposit 10th September, before specs and pricing came out; however as I was away dealer had got my email address wrong; lost my place in the que! hence the June build for mid to late August delivery; and had trouble sourcing the ed1. I have a 2012 CLS63, and 2013 SLK55 AMG to boot from the same dealer!

Excellent. Saw that paint in the flesh in Sindelfingen and looks fantastic in the sunlight. Hope you have a garage for it though...

Never had magno before but I managed to get the official colour swatches and it looked magnificent under the sun. So taking a punt rather than playing safe. After all a special car needs a special paint job!

How about yours?
