No way will you regret it. When I saw the the GTS on display at Brooklands some months back I have to say I was underwhelmed - not aggressive looking enough for my taste. I'm hoping a GT3/black version may sort that. The McLaren is simply a different car altogether & i'm not really sure you can compare them other than being in the same price ball park. The Mac will be an event every time you get in it & the ssg gearbox leaves the MCT way behind even with the software upgrades.
Don't even think about it, just fast forward your mind to when you can collect your new car. 😀

In terms of that it may have been the more dynamic car perhaps I don't know? Will be interested to see what colour you go for on the 540 though! Do like how you set out for a GTs and have ended up with a 540 though - wonder how the 540 will sound? Will have thought the 540 will be quicker too.
Tbh I started just wanting a car that would make me feel special when I drive it and had enough practicality to be a daily driver or for a week or two in France. The AMG fitted the bill.
Then, as is always the case, a new contender arrives and I basically fell in live with the looks and idea of the McLaren.
After two hours at McLaren and experiencing the dihedral doors of the 650S I was smitten and that was that.
The AMG will be, I'm sure, a fabulous car but the McLaren is "special" in a totally different way to me.
I love cars, as I'm sure we all do, and the wonderful thing is that there is always one special make and model for one at any given time.

Great Points. And thats what it is like to you! Have you chosen a colour for the 540c? Or got any form of delivery/estimated dates? I think Mclaren are special on the same level as Ferrari and Lamborghini, and they are a 'cut above the rest' in relation to 911/F Type etc. Then, as is always the case, a new contender arrives and I basically fell in live with the looks and idea of the McLaren.

Im a massive fan of the 650s (even without the opinion of GRBF430 aka rambolambo now) and think for me its where my money would go in spider form if i had around the 200K mark to spend. however 12cs look fantastic value now!

I won't need to spec until around 4 months before delivery - around November/December for April delivery.
They had a black/black 650S spider at the dealership and if I had the money I'd jump at that car - simply breathtaking!
Know of a chap who has a 650s spider, bought it for his wife.... said its the quickest car he owns, also after the golf the most comfortable - and he owns some pretty nice bits of kit. They do look great, I like it in blue, red or grey personally. Blue would be my default choice though. Look insane to me, so low. Im a bit of a Mclaren Fan the only downside is they don't sound as good as a ferrari. Mclarens brand is much better managed, and there isn't the 'snobbery' that seems to come with F car friends ownerships. Mclaren less of a pretentious affair from accounts I've heard.

Sls residuals were horrible whilst the car was in production. They were also giving discounts of 30-40k from list at one stage.
Now they are looking much better post production ending
That's true. I sold my SLS in 2013 at 20 months old for half its list price. Luckily I had bought it new with 50k discount but some people must have really had their fingers burnt. Now they are looking much better post production ending

Now struggle to get one for less than £140k some did dip into 95-100K territory for a short period so were a bargain at that point. I love the drama they have, lovely package although would change the exhaust to a remote system!GTer said:
They have a blue one in MB Chelsea. These are the normal seats. And a couple of views of the sea of bonnet...
I popped in to look at the demo at Chelsea on Saturday. Looked okay - I think it was spec'd at around £130K on the road. Looks better in the metal than the photo's suggest. I dropped in - spent ages looking for a parking sport for my Roadster - they had no idea who I was (the sales guys that I ordered my car from was busy selling a B-series....) - and they weren't over friendly - so I just jumped in and started poking all of the buttons - started the engine and put it into loud/sports+ mode. Got some attention pretty sharpish! I explained that I had just got back from Auto Italia at Brooklands - popped into MB World - and had to go and see the demo (which was locked and hidden away in the demo car park) - so spend 1 minute before I headed back into town. I then told the guy that I had ordered one - and it was a lot more than his demo - and suddenly his demeanour changed - especially when Karl turned up and greeted me - apologising for not getting to me earlier......
Not impressed with MB so far - they still don't have all colour options/interior options to review.

Very poor that the salesman doesnt treat you with more respect - how do they know what you have/what your spending power is? Odd but seems to be a trait a lot of salesman seem to have.
Hope your experience improves with MB Anjum. Any closer to choosing how you're having yours exterior paint / interior colour scheme?
MB Chelsea not the best dealer compared to anything! A few years ago was looking at a C63 and the sales guy wasn't interested in budging on anything to sweeten the deal and also seemed clueless when it came to speccing the car up. Asked if I could put some designo stuff in to spruce up the very plastic interior and he said no to everything. Anyway, it's all about the car. You only have to deal with the sales people a short period of time and personally it shouldn't be about how much money you spend. Even 20k is a lot and is a big purchase when you only make that much in a year

In the bit about spending power I guess thats what I was implying - it shouldn't matter who walks into the show room, you should treat them all the same. After that initial meeting I guess some dealers will treat you more favourably but that initial conversation whenever you're looking should be a polite one. Someone may just be having a look round (Im sure people hate people that just look) - but it could pay dividends in the future to be polite - manners cost nothing.Anjum said:

Haha I think I was in there when you were circling the garage. It's a light blue silver one? I thought you had a problem with the gearbox, not that you were looking for somewhere to park!I agree that they have virtually nothing in the garages. The last time I went in there they didn't even have all the colours. Bit rubbish really. Wish I'd been in there when you fired it up!
Two now advertised on Autotrader as used cars and displaying Mercedes Used Car plates, wasted time speaking to one of them as the car cannot even be sold for six months! I guess the other dealer will have the same story so will put the phone down on him as soon as he announces that it is not actually available to buy.
