I don't think it is orbtar....well, not straight out of the options catalogue anyway. Anything is possible with the AMG Studio, but thats a whole other conversation.

I know the chap that's responsible for UK market at AMG so I've emailed him some questions on spec's, mainly surrounding the dash stitching that you get with the various interior options but also some questions on the lights (I see nothing that mentions intelligent lights are available either as standard or an option which I find strange when even the A-class gets an ILS option). I've also questioned how to get the standard leather/alcantara wheel when you spec the Dynamic Plus pack....I want the dynamic engine mounts but not the full alcantara wheel. I suspect I'll need to be buying a second wheel to get my desire combo frown Anyway, I'm sure it'll make a riveting email for him to read biggrin

You really aren't destined to own an SLS are you Andrew! Good luck with your GT-S and hope it's a brilliant car to own. I'll be sticking with the SLS until I am loaded then probably get the GT too or maybe the S63 after your test drive description

By the way. Do you know if there's any particular type of coolant I need to use. It keeps on reminding me to top up it can't find any info on coolant or oil type and too lazy to call Mercedes!

Andrew, I have the full alcantara wheel in the GTS (911) and half-leather/half-alcantara in the E63. I far prefer the full alcantara wheel.

I also have half-alcantara/half-leather interior in the same split as the pics you posted on thee previous page (leather upper, alcantara lower dash in the GTS. I really like it. I'm sure it would suit the GT very well. But then I don't like bright interiors. The black/white would be my idea of hell biggrin )

It does seem that way but I've enjoyed every minute of it - it's by far the best car I've owned in terms of pure enjoyment and feelgood factor. Making a substantial profit out of it really is the icing on the cake. But I'm a sucker for the latest thing - reality is, your approach of keeping the SLS is the more sensible solution!

No idea on coolant I'm afraid - I've never had to top up a cars coolant to be honest! I'd just go to Merc and buy whatever pre-mixed stuff they have if I were you.

Whilst I typically like alcantara, I don't like holding it all the time hence I get on so well with half of each! As a daily driver, I also think the 50/50 will be the harder wearing option....well, if I keep it long enough that is!

The black/white is my favourite in terms of aesthetics but, after having pure white leather in the M6 and knowing what a royal PITA it is to keep looking decent, I don't think I'll do that again. The black leather/alcantara with red stitching option is the most subtle and as you say, probably suits the type of car it is best. However, the interior design really does lend itself well to a two-tone effect so I'm currently leaning towards the quilted tan leather.

I am, however, almost certainly set on the metallic Hyacinth Red for the exterior.

Very good review in EVO this month (got my copy early as a subscriber). No spoilers but fair to say it was well received and performed well up against a 911 GTS.

I have a build date of April, confirmed today - which is the start for UK production. I'm getting one of the first ones for delivery to the UK - although I have asked if I can pick up from the factory.....

The EVO write up was pretty good - it sounds like a pretty reasonable attempt out of the box.

Factory collection would be great!!

I'm going to pop into my MB dealer this weekend to talk to them about a standard GT - I have the funds now, just not sure if I'm brave enough (£68k on my R8 was difficult enough getting my head around a few years back). But I also know that life is too short and, at 51, I really should be saying "to hell with being sensible and cautious". smile

I think that there may be an issue with Winter tyres - not sure if they will be still be required in Germany when the car is built. I have ordered the sports tyres with my GT S - so I guess that may be a problem. Well, not really a major problem, but let's see!

I agree with your sentiments - you only live once - so why the hell not!

I've just out of the other side of an acrimonious divorce (aren't they all ????) that dragged on for several years - so I have a few toys lined up to make me feel better - I get a 458 Speciale in March, the GT S in April (I think!) - and an Aventador SV in October/November! I think I'm going to keep my Aventador Roadster, which I really like (surprisingly more than my old Aventador Coupe) - just need to work out what to do with the Maserati MC Stradale, which I gets me around town......I think the GT S may replace this as it's a bit smaller and should do the around town bit much more simply. Let's not get into the motorcycles....... smile

No - he didn't but his email said.....

".......Your car is on the April production line ( very first production month for the UK ) and there should be no delays with regards to the paint ( Magno Designo ). Also to confirm that your car is on top of the list and will be the very first customer delivery in the UK!"

So I'm guessing April/May? I've never brought an MB before - so have no idea what they are like with delivery times?

Crikey, that's a whole lot of nice cars to look forward to there! Makes the GT seem almost like an also-ran.

Great news on your delivery - they tend to get the cars to the dealer within 1-2 weeks. Hopefully I'm not too far behind - my expectations are for late April, early May.

As for factory delivery, I did this a few years ago and it was a good experience. They've stopped it now, citing all sorts of reasons (including tyres, which is nonsense as you can take your own car to Germany on summers during winter) but someone finally told me the truth...its all down to cost. I've always wondered if they'd set it up if you throw enough money at them but I suspect theyre just logistically set up for it anymore. Let us know how you get on with this!

Porsche's factory delivery (also stopped I think) is about twice the price of MB.

MB's used to be free. Well, you paid for as part of the on the road delivery charges but no extra. Porsche used to charge about £2k iirc, the cheeky feckers!

It's pure laziness not offering it to the UK - I believe the rest of Europe get it and even customers in the US can be flown over to drive their car to a port.

You can still pick up your car from Porsche - my friend is picking up his 918 in March. Strangely enough, he's not getting charged extra for this........

I won't lose any sleep about not picking the car up - would have been nice to, however, sadly will be working or might get a last bit of spring skiing in, depending on the weather. Picking up the SLR was so much easier......
