Not so sure Palmball?

Ii think the edition 1 looks a bit shouty - tries too hard to be a black series/GT3. When it's just a cooking GT-S.

The body kit is subjective, but I think your in a good position by having an early order in. If you don't like you can spec another one - and there will be more options available then! God! What will you be like then! smile

Going to pop into MB Chelsea to find out what is happening today or tomorrow......

All - per a previous post, I'm thinking about getting some paint protection for the car. Never having gone down this road before, I haven't a clue what I should be considering. Can anyone offer me some advice please?

Thanks,
Jason
James

My recommendation is Topaz - they do my Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Maserati's - they also do McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerarri - they are the best. They offer two services:

1. Paint Correction (Level 1 through to Level 5
2. Paint Protection - Front, Front and Vulnerable area (i.e. Leading edges) and Full protection.

They are not the cheapest - but depending on how much your paint is worth (some of my cars come with a lots of Carbon and special paint) - it's absolutely worth it. And they OCD like you wouldn't believe!

So the car is built and ready - but is still in Germany. MB Chelsea are useless. I received an email saying that my sales guy is busy from 4:15 - not in tomorrow - so will try and find out whats going on on Friday. I'm on the point of saying fk - keep it. No other dealer has ever treated me this poorly.

They can't even tell me why it's late - or when it's likely to be coming over.

Am I being unreasonable? I cannot believe how crap this is.

For the product you're buying its not unreasonable at all imo, Im not saying you should necessarily be treated by royalty but surely those kind of questions should be easily answered?
If you were spending £120-£130k on a porshce or Aston would you have a much better experience?
Sack the GT off and Get a 570s instead biggrin hahaa
The car is £143K - not the most I've ever spent on a car - but no dealer - NONE - has behaved this poorly. I'm used to dealing with Italian car companies - and yes - some car deliveries are late - some are early - and if you're very, very lucky - they actually turn up on time! But they always communicate with you - good news or bad.

I'm not asking to be given the red carpet treatment - but they have now truly pissed me off - and frankly I typically vote with my wallet - I really want to like the GT-S - but I think MB have got a bit of a repetitional problem that they always blamed Chrysler for - which is clearly no longer the case.

Finally - some news - the car is in Chelmsford - why? Getting PDI'd - so should be able to pick it up end of week. I'll believe that when I see it.......

I'm never buying another Merc again. I just hope the car is worth the wait.

I did say never - and from what I can make out - it's a combo of both MB and dealers being a bit st. Clearly - other brands DO much better. Good to see that some loyalty in the MB house - but frankly your welcome to it.

Yey! The car has just arrived at the dealers - should be able to pick it up tomorrow! Just need to pay for it now smile

I'm really surprised how little information the dealers actually get from MB. I popped in yesterday - to relay my dissatisfaction - and to be fair to MB Chelsea - I've had a few emails from MB Chelsea today - organising a test drive - which I haven't done yet - and to tell me that my car is here! Sadly I'm stuck in the city right now - but will try and get back later this afternoon.

Faith restored in MB Chelsea - I just think that MB are not very good at communicating?

Finally picked it up this lunch time!

Too early to tell - sounds great - lots of toys to get my head around - limited to below 4.5K for 900 miles frown

Can anyone tell me about this Mercedes ME system. Sounds a little scary to me. Big Brother......

Feel free to edit to see the pics.....

Sadly - my car has gone. Lovely looking car - and has the makings of a great car.......

But I could't get on with all of the nannying - maybe it was because of the spec of my car - I only drove it for 150 miles......

The deal breaker for me was when I was coming back from the M4 into London. Traffic relatively light - I was coming off the flyover (A4) - and wanted to pull over into the left hand lane - the was no traffic whilst I did this - and the car lit up all warning lights (Lane assist) - and I could feel the pre-braking coming on - and then the power just kind of died? Very weird. Anyway - the constant talking from car to HQ also left me somewhat cold.

Anyway - decided that I liked a CL65 - which has been DMS tweaked! I love it! It behave like a Merc should - wafting around imperriosly - with a real sting in it's tail to boot! And whilst receiving a massage! I think this car sums up MB for me - and doesn't have the same level of nannying or BigBro comms to HQ!

How would I assess my short time with the GT-S? It has the makings of a great car - the chassis looks pretty impressive - I wasn't a fan of the steering - but to be honest I didn't have it long enough to form an opinion. What could be better? Put the normally aspirated 6.2 V8 back in!

I can relate to buying a car and almost immediately not liking it - happened to me with a new M3 last year and quite frankly, it wasn't so much that things were wrong with it (atrocious sound excepted) but more my expectations were in a different place. I did give it 3k miles though wink

But I suspect that after 150 miles this is nothing to do with any of the driver aids (as has been said, they are easily deactivated which I suspect you were aware of) or indeed anything wrong with the car. This was always inevitable with the GT for you Anjum. Firstly, you were getting far too annoyed with the process before you got it which very obviously tainted the whole experience. Secondly and more importantly, you were buying this as a sports car (because that is all it is) when you already had that category covered with probably some of the finiest money-no-object sports cars in the world. A bit like buying an apartment by the seaside in Skegness when you already have a villa in Nice....the GT stood no chance when you already have something like a 458 Speciale.

In the CL65 you now have something totally different which I assume can't really be compared to anything else you own and there's very little in existence (at any price) that does all the good things about it any better. It's great you're happy with it - did you not fancy the new S65 coupe?
Palmball - I buy a quite a few cars a year - every year! Mostly much more sporty than the GT-S - agreed - but this was bought a daily driver - I don't really class the GT-S as a Sports car - more of a GT. When the black series GT-S (with the normally aspirated 6.2 V8) is out - then I'm sure that will be corrected....And you're right - the GT-S had no chance with some of the other toys that I have.

I did turn everything off as per the manual - but this didn't actually turn everything off. For sure, I could have got used to it - turn the car on - spend 2 minutes getting the car set up right - then ready to trot - but what I really couldn't get on with is the fact that the car is constantly talking to MB HQ - like it or not - and you cannot disable this feature. You get it as part of MercedesMe. That is the reason why I didn't go for S-Class Coupe - it has the same feature. Apparently so do BMW's and Audi's - so whilst its not uncommon - it's the first time that I have come across this.

With regards to he whole experience - I'm over that - But I really think that MB are someway off from where they were in the 70's and 80's for customer experience - and having spent some time with MB Chelsea - I can now see that they were kept in the dark as much as I was.

Anyway - I hope you all enjoy your cars - because they are fundamentally sounds cars - but just need some more power - and less nannying!

Does'nt the mercedes me have to be subscribed to. I don't think it's activated until you subscribe to it.
Do any of you who have the gts find the steering become very light at speed?
It transmits data even if you don't subscribe. It transmits continuously and stores the last 20 minutes on the hard drive in the car. There is all kinds of data that is sent even when you don't activate, I'm afraid. Talk to your dealer - and they'll all get very sheepish about what it does, they get excited about Geo-locking - but ask them about exactly what data is transmitted. They may claim not to know......from what I was told (not by my dealer) it's a little bit scary....And that's exactly why I didn't go for the S-Class Coupe - which is a great looking car - but has the same issues. This is similar feedback from a number of friends and hardcore petrolHeads - who are forming a similar opinion that the new passive safety gizmos are detracting from the driving experience.

And yes - the steering was light - but the feedback was pretty reasonable with the Cup Sport 2 tyres on. Way lighter than the Aventador (obviously) - I actually didn't think it was too light - maybe the feedback could telegraph slightly more information but I actually think they just need to sharpen the steering further- maybe reduce the lock from 3 turns to 2.2-2.5 - and then you'd be concentrating a lot more to worry less about it. The Speciale has light steering - but is scalpel sharp - and it's counter intuitive to slow you steering inputs the faster you go when you maxing out around a track.

Still - I think the GT-S overall is a reasonable first effort out of the box - sadly it just wasn't for me. But I'm still in the fold with the CL65!

Just to let you know - there is an article in EVO with the GT-S and a road trip to Norway, which the car comes out of admirably.
