I was in the market recently for an s or cl 55/600.

I really wanted the 600 for sts and giggles but ended up with the S55k amg, and im glad i did.

AMG is bespoke, special seats, 8 pot brakes, etc

whereas the 600 just looked averaged. Also the standard exhaust on the AMG is fairly loud. NOM

The 600 will respond significantly better to modifications than the 55. I have an SL55 with remap, largest crank pulley, extra cooling, and getting headers fitted this month = ~600bhp

You can get that on a 600 with just a remap.

A Kleemann remap took mine to 680bhp!

I think the later 55s don't have the 8 pots, but not 100% sure. It was very odd fitting 4 pads to each side when I did the brakes on mine!

Wow, 680 bhp? What sort of performance stats does that deliver?

I think it's four pads per wheel - each pad has two pistons acting on it.

Yes, 4 pads each side x two pistons = 8 pot.

Well, now 730 bhp with 200 cats and 3" exhaust, plus one or two other mods.

Performance..198mph at Brutingthorpe V max.

On braking, mine are the standard set up, and over the years has done over 100 stops from

190mph plus, in the wet as well, with no problem and also very controllable.

Mark.

From the tiny bit of caliper peeking out from behind those wheels, they look like the 8-piston Brembos that are fitted to the CL55 too.

If anyone's interested, I've done a spreadsheet of all the invoices that came with my CL and all the costs I've experienced since buying it in October.

Similarly from that view they look like SL55 8 pots which are presumably the same as the CL55
