The car is new, it was delivered and registered yesterday, so classed as a 2015 model year. It was a factory order, so not old stick sitting around. According to the paper work the build date was early December.
The roof is solid, nothing can be seen through it at all. I had the glass roof on my last one (mid 2012).

I wonder if they had to get the tooling sorted to make the sort of roof you had? The solid rooves had problems so doubtless the ones like mine were a stopgap measure. Possibly they wanted to stop the cheap work-around for the pano-roof too.

Out of interest - what were the costs for the parts you bought?

I bought the part directly from my local dealer, the price including VAT was £195.

Fitting it really would have been very simple, it took me just 1 minute to remove the solid headlining, no special tools required, you can get your fingers under the edge and then simply pull down and work your way round. The nice thing about having the replacement part in front of you was that you could see from the underside of it exactly where the clips were so you knew how it went together.
Clearly I then have to put it back in place, this was a little bit more tricky and was really a two-person operation mainly to make sure it was held in place while you then pushed everything back. It still only took 5 minutes total.

If you've definitely got the clear roof but the solid headlining without a doubt it's a worthwhile thing to do.

I might indulge; my theory being that hopefully I could get half the money back on eBay when the car goes back.....

That was exactly what my theory was.
Only one minor snag, though was only a couple of years of manufacturing where this would work, so I guess a bit of a limited market in trying to sell it later.
