Considering these options on a new GLA, has anyone got an opinion on how worth while/ improvment they are over the standard specification.

COMAND - well worth having if you use your Sat Nav system a lot, will also allow full voice activation of phone and audio, which the standard Audio 20 doesn't. It is however expensive, therefore if you are happy with a good but more basic Sat Nav system (both are 7 digit, colour and have traffic assistance) and not full voice activation, it may be better to fit the Becker / Garmin (new version) unit for an extra £500.

Media - The car will have a USB connection as standard along with Bluetooth Audio, however the Media interface is well worth having if you have all of your music on an Ipod and would like full control over it. You cannot plug your ipod charge cable into the USB socket as an alternative, it does not allow ipod control through the car.

DAB Radio - This was standard up until a few weeks ago, which is a shame. It is of course a benefit for residual value to add it on and for the ability to listen to more stations, the reception is pretty good.

Harman Kardon - Not that many customers will specify this as the standard stereo is a good quality. The HK system is a decent improvement over standard, would be worth going into your local dealer and listening to both.

Hope this helps a bit

Whilst my experience doesn't relate to a GLA, but an E-coupe, I think that the Comand is very useful. I wasn't sure whether it would be worth it initially but I've found that now I've used it, I'm not sure I would want to go without in future.

I tend not to use satnav much in the UK as I generally know where I'm going, but I have used it quite a lot on the continent, where I've found the voice activation a huge benefit.

I'm presuming that the GLA option will also have the 10GB hard drive for music, which I do use a lot. The ability to easily select from a large music database is a real boon on long journeys. I have the HK option and am very happy with it, but whether it would be the same in a GLA, I can't say.

I don't use my phone in the car (I must be one of the few who don't seem to live on their phones), so can't comment on that aspect.

Like many things, once you get used to using it, you wonder how you used to manage without. Having said that, I don't share the same view with regard to half of MB's 'assistance packages', which often make me wish I could switch them off smile

My C has exactly that setup. A few additional things...

Comand plays DVDs when stationary - useful in prolonged traffic jams. Has a CD/DVD stacker and plays MP3s, and a 40GB HDD, and a SD card slot so it can be loaded with my whole music collection.

The HK setup is decent, gets extra speakers, total 14, I think. Sounds excellent, I like it.

DAB is OK, it works. Seems a little less solid on weaker stations than other DAB setups.

Satnav works well, voice activation is a little idiosyncratic but works well with a slightly Teutonic accent as to speak to itsmile
