The convertible is the better car all round with many advantages, the only advantage the coupe has is the gullwing doors. The convertible is very good value at the moment (in comparison with the coupe) seeing as there are way less of these cars, when did you last see one on the road? With fewer Roadsters built but not as much demand and not holding as well value wise
AMG won't be making Gullwing doors again so I think it's set to become a bit of an iconic car
Lets face it, the SLS is all about the doors and this is what will drive demand and command the premium.
I never got the purpose of the SLS cab to be honest (considering cars like the SL exist in the range) - it might have some technical improvements over the coupe but only on the basis that it was launched at a later date and therefor had further development - all these had filtered down to the coupe by 2012/13 (and can be retrofitted anyway). Subjectively, I think the coupe looks better too (but then I'm not a fan of cab's period). It seems the market agrees given how coupes are comparatively appreciating and I suspect they will always command a premium.

Drive a convertible and a gullwing back to back and the choice is easy, especially if you are tall. Cracking your head against the solid roof centre everytime the rear end flicks out is really painful.
I would expect the convertibles to start to increase in value too, they certainly seem to have stopped dropping. Remember, the gullwings values were on the floor only 18 months ago, I struggled to sell mine while it was newer than most of the others available at the time and it still only made about 50 per cent of its list price at twenty months old, Sytner had about nine in stock and couldn't shift them.

To be fair, the convertible did get a load of enhancements that made it the 'better' car to drive when it was launched. But as I said, all those either filtered down to the coupe by 2012 or can be retrofitted to any SLS. You're then left with similarly capable cars but the coupe has 'the doors' so will always retain added desirability.
Obviously none of this can address the issue orbtar mentions in terms of the limited headroom inside the coupe - if you don't fit comfortably, you don't fit comfortably and nothing will change that. It doesn't make one car better than the other, it just makes one more suitable to individual people. Personally, at 5'9" I had no issues with space in the SLS and had loads of headroom, although I can see how it would feel tight (and possible unpleasant) if you were the other side of 6ft.

Sub £100k? You'll be lucky!
There is a red coupe with 30k odd miles for sale at the moment for £100k. I don't know the car but compared to others for sale, if its a straight car, its a bargain!
Yep that's why I input this..... Maybe vpr will take pity on me and sell me his cheap when he gets bored with it lolThere is a red coupe with 30k odd miles for sale at the moment for £100k. I don't know the car but compared to others for sale, if its a straight car, its a bargain!

The convertible is very good value at the moment (in comparison with the coupe) seeing as there are way less of these cars, when did you last see one on the road? The coupe has already started climbing in value pretty steeply (admittedly from a low point) I've just seen there is one on AT for £150k. I bought my roadster a few months ago and apparently even a dealer would now struggle to buy one for the price I paid. There were four roadsters on AT when I bought mine, there is only one now which is pretty good going over winter. I think both open and closed versions will continue to appreciate - the gullwing as the more iconic, the roadster the rarer - when I bought mine there were just under 300 coupes in the UK and 74 roadsters. Even Clarkson gave it his blessing, describing it as his perfect car and fantastic, I totally agree with his closing comments:
