I ran my standard tune E63 S (M157) on the MSL dyno a couple of days ago.

638hp
865Nm

Just saying really...cool

How I wish we had 4 wheel drive here in the UK.

Nice figures John, let the modding begin now, possibly with a tuning box? (My old one is available smile)

Are you looking for someone to say that the dyno is optimistic , dynos are worthless, there are too many variables etc etc

Or are we meant to think it's normal for Mercedes to understate their engines by >50hp

Either - I just write it - others critique it.

Out of interest OP, how many miles have you done in the car?

I don't think results of these sorts are unheard of at all, it seems like plenty of M5 drivers get 600hp+ despite a claimed 550-60hp.

Its odd isnt it. If you Modified your engine to get another 50bhp the insurance would be all over you. But if it comes as stock and a pleasant suprise/bonus can they do anything about it?

Did I miss your new car intro on the other forum ? How does it compare to the M156 power plant ?

What does the butt dyno say? The dyno indicates it must be 100hp up on your 6.2 version so are your arse cheeks telling you this?

It doesn't feel 125hp quicker, however, maintaining traction is now much more of a problem at the moment, and the engine characteristics are very different.

As you'll know, owning both engines, the 5.5 is more civilised, (which isn't necessarily a good thing) with progress being more understated.

Deceptively fast is probably the best description.

In the 6.2, once you'd got traction, it didn't break again as you went through the gears.

With the 5.5, you get traction back after that initial spin, power up through the rev band and at around 4K it breaks again, and again in the next gear, and again in the next gear (obviously on less than perfect damp roads).

I'll do a Palmball stylee write up soon.
