Yes and no. I made mention of this a bit last yr. Merc put a 3 month delay on with the introduction of the 9 speed on the E. I would imagine it's part of sorting out that backlog. Keeping my Mrs from beating Matc up at the back end of last yr waiting for her car was nearly a full time job!
I ordered the new E350 Cabriolet with the 9 speed box in October 2014, I paid my £500 deposit to secure a production slot and a delivery date of March 2015, Mercedes told my dealership in January 2015 I cannot have the car until July 2015 at the earliest, My dealership has been very helpful, and told me in January that the 9 speed box is coming through to them but in limited versions of the E class and CLS variants, so essentially I could have an E350 coupé for March but not a Cabriolet, how ridiculous is that? as my dealership are only a sales franchise in the eyes of Mercedes, they are limited in what they can do or say.
Mercedes created a euphoria of interested with regards to new customers on this model change, myself being in that interested group, but it would now appear its gearbox manufacturer does not have the capacity to produce them in sufficient numbers, so on the face of it the factory are limiting first allocation of the new gearboxes to selected models such as the E Class coupé and CLS shooting-break models, not an ideal situation a prestigious car manufacturer should get itself into, especially when a customer like myself has ordered the cabriolet in October 2014, has paid a deposit, has a production slot, but the factory refuse to switch gearbox allocation from the coupé to the cabriolet to get a car out in time and satisfy a deposit paying customer. Can I also make the point that these allocations of coupé's etc are only on paper and with no customer take up as of yet, sufficient to say I will not be taking delivery of the Cabriolet in July.
