Question on 05 SLK55
Discussion
Hmmm. i think the Space saver is a funny size to cope with the 6pot front calipers on this model.
I have one (a space saver) on my SLK55 2005 so never had to order one but be careful obtaining a salvage or used one 'from any merc' or other SLK model.
You might want to have a quiet visit to a friendly MB dealer who can confirm how common the part is on the SLK55 Space Saver. you might be lucky and it's a commom MB part across the range. if the space saver is missing but the air compressor is present then you should be okay - there's a fair amount of gear that sits in the well with the space saver. Tool, different bolts to hold on the space saver, quite a 'kit' if that makes sense. It is ever so wierd the way the tyre expands and folds over itself to form the contact patch on the road. I thought mine was knackered when i tested it.
Also you cannot fit the removed wheel into the space saver area in the boot floor. so there is some sense in not even getting a space saver and just get recovered by AA / RAC. However i've heard stories if you have a car with a designed/expected spare onboard, and you've not got one, you can get in bother. how true this is however......

It's an odd space-saver on the SLK. Watch this:

I asked the previous owner about it when I bought mine as I thought it looked wrong - it looks like the tyre is off the rim, but once inflated it all pops into place. Clever.
Just remember that the full size wheel doesn't fit back in there so....whoever your passenger is will have to carry it
