I too have a 190 but it's an 2.0L 'E' and really quite special and a well-travelled thing!.....

Made in Germany (obvs!) in 1998 and shipped to Tokyo for sale to 1st owner. Spec. - Gunmetal-grey paint. Leccy sunroof, Leccy windows x 4, Leccy seats and both fronts heated. 2-tone black/grey leather throughout, working air-con and those lovely alloys you previously referred to. 63K on the clock.

Imported to the UK from Japan around 2004. I bought it immediately on sight in 2009 for £1700! It was nearly immaculate. We then drove it out to our home on Lake Como where it sits patiently in our garage with the battery disconnected. Starts 1st time/every time we use it. We've been stopped a few times by the Caribinieri (normal out there) and they always smile at the 'Mercedes-Benz-Tokyo' dealer sticker and Tokyo parking-permit that remain attached.

Brilliant wee thing that will probably outlast me and the Mrs! hehe

How do the Italians treat you with a right hand drive out there? There were a bit arsy with me when I was over in my Panda.

On the topic of Fiats. I'm having a shed clear out on eBay...

...reserve set at a new set of discs and pads all round. smile

So the last £40 got me 225 miles before the reserve light came back on.

£40 / £1.14.9 = 34.81L

34.81 / 5.5 = 6.33G

225 miles / 6.33G = 35.54mpg

Not bad at all. Normal "up to the speed limit spiritedly" driving. hehe

Brake bits are on the way and I have a bottle of predator blood (Coma) coolant ready for the new sensor to arrive. smile

Another £40 and 434 miles.

£80 / £1.149 = 69.63L

69.63 / 5.5 = 12.66G

434 miles / 12.66G = 34.28mpg

Nice and consistent. smile

More good news. I fitted the brass temperature sensor last night and it made no difference. So today I took the expansion tank off, removed the ballcock level indicator and it was covered in what looked like mud. I'm guessing Radweld. Cleaned it off, cleaned the tank out, cleaned the terminals, put it all back together and topped up with tap water for now.

I now have no lights on my dash at all! woohoo

I'll use this evenings commute to flush the water through the system, drain it tomorrow and fill with Coma Predator blood coolant. smile

The front discs, front and rear pads arrived today so I can do the front brakes on my days off this week and if the rear discs arrive in time that'll be done over the weekend (at work as I'll have nothing else to do). The M.O.T advisory items will be dealt with this payday as it's the last one before she's due another test. As she's a 93 I can't do the bike carb's conversion so back to the drawing board so far as tuning goes.

Two things to note. First, your car must have the optional long range tank: a 55litre tank was standard, 70litres optional. Second, you must have been running on fumes to get 69.63litres into it!

The tank measurement doesn't include the neck. You can get another 2 or so litres in the neck alone.

Here's a top tip for coolant flushing.

Stick a Guinness widget in the end of the radiator lower pipe so the flush doesn't fall out of the bottom.

Front brakes done. smile

Fair to say the old bus needed it. Just waiting for the rear discs to show up.

A little something I do on my threads (to fill them out a bit) is "Tool of the Job"

Apart from things like ball joint splitting there are a few tools out there designed to do one job. I hate that and have always thought a piston pusher would be a waste of money and valuable shed space. So I when doing brake pads and discs I have always used welding clamps to push the piston back. Just for that it's today's "Tool of the Job". bow

Does anyone have an AC bracket kicking about?

I need a photo' and size of the pulley. If I get a low boost supercharger mounted where the air conditioning pump lives I can plumb it into the original engine and balance the Air/Fuel dealt with using bigger injectors from a 2.0 smile

531 miles for £100 of Petrol.

£100 / £1.149 = 89.7l

89.7l / 5.5 = 16.31G

531 miles / 16.31G = 32.56mpg

She's slipping. hehe

In other news the rear disc arrived today so I can fit those and the new pads tomorrow. Another thing to cross off the list of pre-M.O.T jobs.

I think a slight change of plan maybe afoot. I've been offered a 1984 230CE for £400 smile

Classic 230CE with modern 230 Kompressor power would be more fun than the 190E (just about). Keep the 190E standard and play with the 230 maybe?

I know. Rust wasn't the issue with my last 230CE it was the newspaper and isopon used to fill it in. wink

This one comes with sills and is only £400. A genuine W123 sill is £450 so my expectations are as low as they can get. hehe

So much potential.

I'll stick to my £325 190E for the time being. I have no driveway space and Morris Minor hotrod in my shed. wink

The 190E's mystery tank is now solved. Filled her up from almost empty and she took 48.7l so it's a 50L tank. smile

Should be good for about 300 miles but filled the rear end hangs a little.

Payday so time for some M.O.T related shopping. smile

Looking for new tyres for the 190E and for an extra £80 I can have a set of alloys, good tyres and a complete E300 TD included.

scratchchin

I'll break and/or bin that for enough money to get the 230CE unless he'd be interested in a trade.

I'm well aware of the fine work the Black Smoke Racing boys have done but it's a bloody automatic. frown
