'eaded Darn Sarf!

To deliver two sets of Fiat wheels to pay for the E300 tomorrow. wink

There are twenty seven being broken for parts on eBay so that market is a little bit flooded. I'll see what it needs, shift it and use any profit on my projects.

I know a project to pay for a project is like those Russian Dolls but if I had money to budget I wouldn't be buying projects in the first place. How boring must that side of the fence be. hehe

Does the Mercedes family share bellhousings? If I could convert the E300 TD to use a proper gearbox it could have potential.

Should be good for about 300 miles but filled the rear end hangs a little.
269 miles / 7.84G = 34.31 mpg

Not bad considering the added weight of the fuel and a hundred miles of that was with eight wheels and tyres in the car. smile

The bellhousings on your M102 and the OM606 donor are the same so physically it's a straight swap.

You won't make it far before the box is mush from the torque.

I believe the weapon of choice is the 6 speed manual from a 270cdi W203.
The 220cdi would probably stand the torque pretty well and is a lot more common.

Although the bellhousing is the same, I believe the input shaft will not mate up correctly. Needs further investigation.

£20 109 miles

£20 / £1.159 / 5.5 = 3.14G

109 miles / 3.14G = 34.71mpg

My other concern is the gearbox ECU if it's separate from the engine than it could be fine but if not it could a monumental faff. Also I'd have to sell the rest of the car in pieces that I don't have the time or space to do. Besides there are more being broken than on the road from the looks of things...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_tr...

...my previous search was for E300 Turbo Diesels only. The universal E-Class parts market is saturated. Even if I under price it's no guarantee I'll shift the parts quick enough.

I'll still swing by for a proper look but I'm 80% sure I'll pass.

I'm so glad I didn't get stopped by the Police today. The plastic sheet was to protect my back seat from the second set of wheels I took to London, the gloves so I wouldn't get muck on my steering wheel and the clown mask for the average speed cameras on the A1(M).

hehe

Good news, bad news; better news.

According to the M.O.T...

...the prop'shaft front rubber has excessive play. So I bought a new one...

...and as I know it's a pain in the faff of a job I gave myself all day today to do it.

With the gearbox cross member removed I could finally get to the front rubber...

...to find it's perfect and next to no movement at all.

The rear one is the same...

...but the central support bearing...

...has a few millimeters of play.

There is slop when I change gear and short of strapping a camera to the underside of the car to see where the movement is I'm stuck.

One problem I did solve today. The exhaust rattle wasn't a leak or loose baffle the cat' cover was corroded, loose and...

...now re-homed. wink

So the good news is I don't have a pain in the faff job to do. The bad is I've bought a £70 part I didn't need and the better? I thought the M.O.T was in June but it turns out it's August. biggrin

My old van's M.O.T would be in June if I still had the old bus and I'm getting wires crossed. getmecoat

Can you get the car on a ramp?
Get a mate to stomp on the brakes and put the car into drive, then into neutral, then into reverse. Normally exposes where the play is.
Sometimes the rubber appears OK until it's under stress.

I have spread my dreams under your feet;

Just bought a Haynes manual.

This poo just got real. hehe

I really like this car and to be honest if nobody buys it I'll not be that bothered. I feel the car could do better than just get me to work and back. The 1.8 engine, lazyboy seats and squishy suspension doesn't lend itself well to track days or motorway munching. The boot is great but lacks the versatility of a hatchback or estate. My sister and nephews have moved away so I no longer need to ferry them about. I can't justify owning a car that only does a few things.

I could as planned fit suspension, brake and power upgrades but why spoil such a nice car when I can get a E230 Kompressor for under a grand?

Yes it is a full factory car
It it has Brabus engine, suspension, wheels, body kit, interior,Brabus clocks and a Gertag dog leg box.
Not much left of the donor car apart from the body work

So it's been a few weeks since I took my 190E out and today she ran like a sack of crap. Until I filled up at the petrol station and all of a sudden she was fine again. Three weeks for petrol to go off these day? rolleyes

Also I wasn't please to see it was £1.169 a liter instead of the £1.129 it was before. Anyone would think the Torys were in.

So I have ordered the subframe bushes and centre bearing bush for the prop'. I'll do all the advisory stuff before I prep' the car for this years M.O.T in August.

Battery clamp.
Tyres.
Arch repair.
Paint.
Interior valet.
New M.O.T and she'll be up for sale by the end of the Summer for £1,595 hehe

Good thread LK, my first drive of a Merc was one of these, Dad's cousin bought one & threw the keys to 18 year old me to take it for a spin & the only think I can remember was just how solid the thing was.

Hate to tell you though - there are only 4.5l per gallon so your mpg's are a bit out - sorry !

I picked up a misfire and was baffled as to why the car sounded sportier. hehe

Number four HT lead had come out of the bracket and melted on the exhaust manifold. banghead

So new HT's and back box this month as well as bushes. wink
