I've been hunting on the internet for an owners manual for a 1988 300 SL (R107) and not having much joy

Any suggestions?

I would also like to obtain another duplicate key and wondered if only Mercedes will provide these or whether there are recommended alternatives? (it's just a key with no electronics)

As above, the keys from MB are very high quality.
Any high street locksmith can cut you one if it's only going to be an emergency spare.

I tried many of the high street key cutters and locksmiths for my '89 107 but none could do it at all. In the end I bought a spare from MB but it cost nearly £50, so not cheap!
Likewise I've been unable to find a handbook anywhere on the Internet/eBay yet. Still looking though.

I ordered a key for my W123 from Mercedes 6 weeks ago, and I am continuously being given the run around!rolleyes

It's supposedly been ordered at least 3 times, but the factory have "supposedly" cancelled it 3 times!

I'm not happy, as I can't do anything with the car!

Any suggestions, short of replacing the ignition barrel?

Oh, and it was £27, so I'd expect one for your R107 to be a similar price.

You may have to go through the Classic Centre at Mercedes-Benz of Poole.

The last key I bought (only two years or so ago) was about £20 and took maybe 10 days to come from Germany. That was for a 124 but the locks are essentially the same. I ordered mine from my local dealer, MB of Newcastle. I went to buy a glovebox lock for the same car recently and was told it was still available but I had to go through Poole. The contact person, Shaun Zealey, has a very good reputation for helpfulness, knowledge and enthusiasm.

Excellent recommendation thanks - Shaun was exactly as described and can supply a key (£31.00 + VAT)
