is this likely to be ruinous to a bank account? I know that the S class isn't a cheap car to run therefore i'm going in with eyes open.. just after opinions really

No, not necessarily.
Air suspension can be maintained on a budget these days with lots of aftermarket parts available including seal kits.
Engine and gearbox are known to be solid and reliable in these.
I'd be wary of the aftermarket headunit that's been fitted. A quality job shouldn't cause concern though.
Rust is the main thing i'd look for on a car of this year. They can have some other niggly electronic issues occasionally but parts are plentiful at breakers for these now.
The colour is a rare one and looks even better in the metal.
