Hello all,

Currently looking at the possibility of getting a ~2010/2011 c-class estate.

Seen many c220s and a couple of c350s in budget. Other than economy on paper and performance difference, just wondering what 'those in the know' think of the two in terms of real world performance, economy, reliability, running costs etc.

Trying to establish whether its worth paying a little more for the c350, or perhaps spending the same but getting one that's a year older and a little higher mileage.

So.... any key difference, particular engines to avoid / look for, common issues, BIG services etc.

Last two cars have been a Golf R32 and BMW 545 estate, so used to cars that aren't that frugal biggrin

Thanks!!

The best compromise between the two is the C250 only 25bhp down but I will say the 350 is the nicer engine no really bad points on either engine 200 220 250 all basically the same 2.2 that Mercedes have used since the late 90's it's just been refined over the years it's the same for the 350 it's been around since 2005 so again nothing to bad to report.

Make sure the Gearbox Oil has been changed that's about it., both go well after a re map, I can give you the figures if you're interested wink

I'd say going by your past car history you'll prefer the 350.

Bear in mind that 2011 is the facelift and it's worth paying more to get a facelift car. There are hundreds of revisions, some obvious, some not so.

The 350 is a great engine that does pretty well in much heavier cars than the C class. In the C class it's a little rocket.

A remap can easily take power over 300bhp and it will hang with a C63 once a remap is done.

The 220 is a bullet proof engine and does OK in 99% of real world situations.

Your decision is head vs heart.

Many thanks to both.

Will have a look around and try and test drive a couple this weekend to see the difference.

Glad to hear there aren't any major issues or faults to be mindful of, may end up just going for the 220 as it'll get me a newer, lower mileage one from a quick look on autotrader, but will see what pops up. Not buying it with performance in mind, more of a relaxing cruiser for the next few years, but would obviously be rude not to have a glance at a 350 wink

Ah, yes, meant to include that as well!!

Would appear a good compromise. Haven't seen many of them popping up locally, so may have to broaden the search!

Cheers!

Thanks for help

Yesterday I purchased a 220. Perfectly adequate for what I'm after performance wise and meant I could get a newer and lower mileage one.

So, this week I should be picking up my '62 plate, 220 cdi estate (executive SE) ?basic spec, manual, palladium silver, black artico leatherette. Absolutely mint condition, and the colour I wanted.

Drove great and a nice place to be. Here's to >20mpg...

I've been driving my C220 auto coupe for the last 20 months and in over 30k miles my dashboard fuel economy is 47.8mpg so if you can't get above 20 you will need to either release the handbrake, use the higher gears, or fit all four wheels!

I'm looking at getting a C220 estate Auto. Where do you get these re mapped and what's the cost. Will a basic map stress engine/parts?
