Worth a look if you're handy. Could be a world of pain getting it right though. How lucky do you feel?

Windows and seats could be tip of the iceberg. If the windows don't drop you probably won't be able to check the hood. It's driven from the same ECU and will require the windows to drop before unlatching.

Old cars don't like being unused, so expect plenty of other stuff to require attending if you get it into regular use.

I've sniffed at several at £3k. All needed work though...this might be worth s tilt as it'll be a facelift and the v6 is a sweet engine. But check what else doesn't work...

It's not a facelift, it's not even a 97 as stated, it looks like a 94 or 95 complete with ratty interior and most likely a dodgy wiring loom.

I think the rarer ones are starting to fetch good prices. I have seen an SL60 at £30+. Some of the final editions of the SL500 seem to be advertised at similar money. What great cars these are. Not sure I would like the repair costs of something needing a big restoration.

Has there ever been a better built car? None that I can think of tbh.

Today with modern exec saloons a common sight on our roads, taking drivers of such cars in the SL they are genuinely surprised at the way the car rides and goes down the road, while many used to their diesels are simply blown away when the V8 is used in anger. Compared to the newer over damped cars today the subtle calm of the R129 suspension is nothing short of a revelation. Progress indeed.

There have been 2-3k examples for a while, whether you'd actually want to buy one or not is another matter. There seem to be far fewer available now than when I was looking for mine two years ago- only 7 500's on PH and not sure any are appealing.
