Here's the complete list.

- I was hoping for a Pano roof but this one feels quite airy with the white rooflining and light great seats/door cards.
- Deffo wanted COMAND with UMI, intelligent light system & privacy glass (and I can always add DAB to that particular config))
- Was happy to get either 18's (for the looks) or 17's (for the ride)
- Very happy to have tyre pressure monitoring as my wife experienced a hairy blowout moment with the kids in the car
- The rest is just a bonus - looking forward to having a rear view camera and trying the night vision & distronic
- The other thing is the mileage - it's only on 53k and I'll probably keep it for at least 5 years

So it's basically a very low mileage Avantgarde in a great colour combo with a very high spec and a pillowy ride.

Jesus, £8750, that is hopeful, E55 territory, I know its not an estate but I didnt get much interest in my CLS at 7k, which is four years newer, has the later engine etc, reckon it would go at 6, that is four/five grands worth tops.

It's finally ready after a week that has gone incredibly slowly.

Picking it up tomorrow with an interesting route back lined up.

Update. The clips that hold the rear roof blind in place have just snapped. So my rear sun blind in the roof doesn't work.

Will try to repair with very strong epoxy, otherwise it's a replacement pair and I'm guessing pulling the roof lining down.

Got it home yesterday and love it. Feels like 388 bhp is pretty conservative. Anywsy having had a long series of cars running around 150bhp/ ton it's noticeably quicker with 200 bhp/ton. Deffo need some re-calibration. It's also a bit lighter on fuel when being drive bus-style which is handy. A great all rounder. I have trips to Oxfordshire, Wiltshire & France lined up. Finishing my gardening leave with some fun.

I find that most of the time when driven normally, it's doing less than 2000 rpm and you tend to forget the performance is there.

Which makes the surprise when you actually use the engine more fully even more shocking.

Yes - when I re-enter London on the A40 it's all average speed cameras so just drive in granny mode. It could bimble all day at 1500 rpm

My E350 sits at 1200rpm in those zones, it feels more like an electric car compared to the 350d I had before.

Really looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.

The engine in the 350 CGI is a peach and is actually what I set out to buy. Whoops.

And you're right the revs - they would have been nearer 1200.

It's also a very nice place to sit. I haven't had a car with a pale interior since my last C43. Also my first non-silver car in 14 years. Makes a nice change. Wife and kids love it too. Which helps when I go way over budget.......

Just got back from Derby and did a quick bit or urban schlepping. Love the variable ratio rack round town.

Back out to Oxfordshire tomorrow for the first family jaunt.

This morning I'm so in the good books thanks to the Sunday Times front page story - diesels about to get nailed in London and "23 or 24 other cities and towns".

Phew dodged that bullet.

Yeah, hefty.

TBH I was seriously considering a 350 CDI at the begining of my search on the basis that the majority of miles will be out of the city. Now extremely glad I didn't do that and even happier that I stumbled across a 500 just as I was giving up all hope of ever getting my hands on a decent 350 petrol.

Happy days :-)

I nearly offered you my E350 sport, as there was an E63 I liked the look of, but it doesn't have a pano roof and black interior. My plan was either buy the silver seats and door cards at some point or get it refinished in a deep oxblood colour, but the black with the contrast stitching is actually alright, I think because it is a big cabin you get away with it.

I know though, as much as I would have loved the E63, the upkeep and extra fuel costs for the odd time I really enjoyed what the E63 offered would soon annoy me. I think the E500 is the perfect blend, regular servicing costs, not paying £1500 to replace the brakes like on the E63 etc. etc.

I think when it comes to things like the E63 and S63, same with things like a Masser Quattroporte, you either need to do 8-10k miles a year or if doing 20-30k miles a year have enough money to burn so you can properly enjoy them and not think about costs at all.
