I've had an E500 (W211 mind) for 2 years now... Still enjoying it!
Literally the only negative of the car is dealing with the associates of my associates asking "Why haven't you put AMG badges on it? Dey is well cheap on eBay innit?" *facepalm*
Fuel consumption is saintly for the power available. I've seen 30-31mpg on a few runs where hooning wasn't a possibility, but 20-24 on runs with occasional hoonage.
Maintenance and repair costs no worse than one of the fancier Ford or Vauxhall saloons really... Similar chances of previous Barrying though.

Update. The clips that hold the rear roof blind in place have just snapped. So my rear sun blind in the roof doesn't work.

Will try to repair with very strong epoxy, otherwise it's a replacement pair and I'm guessing pulling the roof lining down.
Dull update. I have fixed the complicated luxury car with strong epoxy. I am a genius.

(Bets on how long it will hold for?)

Good skills. Now give it some beans. If if breaks, oh well. If not, repeat.

Mine is good for just under 30 mpg when taking it reasonably easily.

Although it took a bit of a hit on the autoroutes with the bikes on the roof but then I didn't buy to hypermile. I bought it to put a smile on my face.

Complex but well built. And the oily bits just go on forever*

  • must remember to the the gearbox oil changed when I get back.
