I have the June 1998 price list and that figure is accurate. Oddly enough, by January 1999, they had reduced the UK price to £73,950. And then by April 2001, a the price had fallen even further to £65,340.

Two things come to mind with the 1999 price reduction; the delay of the R230 and the introduction of the M113 engine. By 2001 the R230 was imminent so I suppose you had a clearance sale price.

The value of sterling rose against the mark over this period, too; plus there was a campaign to close the gap between German or ex works prices or UK prices. Remember all the fuss about imports? This lead to big price cuts in the UK at this time: Porsche knocked ten grand off a 911.

Good points. Such a long time ago I'd clean forgotten about them.
