Its time I think to make the C55 sound a bit more fruity. The obvious answer is the X pipe resonator delete. I don't know whether to remove the secondaries at the same time though?

Youtube vids are all a bit confusing as to what has had one or both removed and invariably is someone revving the car up while stationary. I'm not interested in that. I want it to sound better but not raspy. I want that burbly V8 sound kinda C63 ish I guess.

Any advice as to the difference between just resonator x pipe, or Xpipe + decat?

I don't want it to be too intrusive while motorway driving IYSWIM.

I keep thinking Sod it out with the cats, then I get all worried that it might sound too raspy or annoying during cruising and think i'll keep them, then I get worried that it wont be enough of a difference without the cats gone too.

Aaaahhh!

Keep the cats & get the Xpipe put in where the resonators live this will give you a deeper note especially when hard on the gas but will still be subtle when cruising.

^^What he said^^

If you're near Birmingham, then Torqueflow offer this service, and other mods. They're based in MSL Performance, who specialise in Mercedes, so know what they're doing. They can also do a de-cat, either by gutting or removal.

EML in Watford (I think) are highly respected on this sort of thing as well, though I've never used them personally.

A resonator delete/replacement to X-Pipe gives a slightly deeper tone, with a kind of "raspiness" (is that a word?) that can barely be heard inside the car, though is quite noticeable outside.

Disclaimer: I have no connection with either of the above companies, though will admit to being a regular at MSL. biggrin

I'm Essex based. had a quote from a local place, seemed a bit on the high side to me circa £600.

I'm based in Essex also and have a CLS63. I had the secondaries (think that's the term used) cut out and two pipes welded in place for £95. Defo a good mix for me without being too crazy.

That's what i'm after. General jist is that its secondaries and resonator out, x pipe in. just need to find somewhere decent to do it without costing the earth. Not knowing what the earth is, how much should I be expecting to pay for this?

A very kind offer indeed and it would be good to hear one. I guess you aren't local from your profile. Nice pork though!

About £300-400 depending on the type of X Pipe.

Finally got around to this today. its bliss! Bordering on being a bit too naughty so exactly where I wanted it I suppose. And what every AMG should sound like in my book!

Cheers for all the suggestions guys.

I found it was only naughty on a cold start. Rest of the time it was fine. I had secondaries removed at torqueflow for straight pipe and resonator removed. Tiny bit of drone at 80mph ish.

I went to pipecraft in Basildon. They removed the secondaries and the resonator. No X pipe as it was already Y into a single pipe at the resonator. Sound has calmed down a bit now. i guess its got a little sooty in there. Or I'm getting used to it.

I find it a little drony when tipping in at low speed ~ 40 mph say. Other than that its perfect. Pretty quiet until you boot it.
