I like my 80s and 90s mercs, and like exploring anything to do with them. Why don't we post random stuff to do with this era of mercedes? From the barge 1-5 thread there are plenty who like this era of Mercedes on Pistonheads.

Anything goes - thoughts, comments, anecdotes, Youtube videos, cars for sale, links to reader's car threads and so on. 190 to S-classes welcome.

I'll start with this video of a nice looking W124 300E on youtube. Nothing special, but I enjoyed it:

What an unusual spec - the 300 engine but wind up windows. Post away!

Yeah...they're ok but they're not as good as BMWs!

(Just kidding...the 190E, even though I no longer own one, is still IMHO the best big volume/mass produced car ever made.)

Derin of course you are right. An e28 528 is still my perfect daily but for rust!

Some of the nicest photos of restored mercs are of course located on one website, eg here: http://www.bmwclassics.co.uk/Mercedes_C124_230CE/i...

Lovely!

This video made me look at r129s for the engine that AMG put in 'The Hammer'. What a W124!

You had to remind me of the very one that I should probably never have sold...the car that I used to deliberately take the long way home just to drive it! laugh

I didn't want to cause unnecessary trauma which could have occurred with other examples from your website Derin!

Blimey Derin, you making things worse for me, I knew it was a special but didnt realise that even you loved it so much. That Red coupe was amazing and if I could turn back time I would sell of few spare limbs and organs to buy it from you.

Great Idea for a thread, Oa, another place for me to waste hours of my life on line :-)

My '91 190 Evo II before I bought him in Portugal last year

My '98 W140 S500

I love 80's and 90's Mercs. The newer ones are much better in all ways but these have bags of character.

WOW what a combination!

I see you purchased one of the suburban palm tree cars - how was it?

Does anyone have the paint charts for the 80s and 90s for MB? So much better than today's shades of silver efforts!

Thanks for posting thepanays! My 500SL is a 1991, so I guess we both have the early ("more powerful") engine. Your car has a lovely colour combination. The R129s 500s are great cars.

Goodness me that looks good. It inspires me to persevere with my acquisition. Are you still selling?

And I'm not convinced the modern ones are much better, but we have that tedious debate all the time.

Sorry, only joking,
Just looks a bit "stanced" in the photo.
Didn't mean to offend, always wanted a 2.3 16 back in the day.

Just imagine ordering a new MB back in the 1980s and looking at the colour charts. They must have been magnificent. Look at the shade of this 190... it wouldn't be allowed now! http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C699543
