Jealous of that.nerd

Having nasty thoughts about swapping my E34 540i for an S124 300TE. This thread is not helping.

For non EPC users, potentially useful parts catalogue for Mercs (and others)

I didn't know they did a 7.0 litre SL70 AMG. http://www.silverstoneauctions.com/mercedes-benz-s...

I wonder what's going on with that one: the blurb suggests it has a 7.2.

That must be a lovely thing, though, eh? Seven litres of normally aspirated V12. Talk about overkill.

I'd have to lose the "privacy" glass on the hardtop and fit some pukka rims.

Just seen this one on Car and Classic. The handbooks suggest a Japanese import.

These SL70's and SL73's were special-order I think; there's one on Auto Scout 24 (fabulous place to spend an hour or two!) for 225000 Euros, which at today's exchange rate is about 8 quid. I think.

Awesome - surely it will sell for more than the estimate?

I agree with r129 regarding the questionable add ons. I'd love to have a go in it though! I have to say I don't generally think my 500 lacks power so who knows what this is like...

Just to prove the 129 isn't the preserve of the tasteful gentlemen motorist, here's a horror beyond all comprehension. I mean, nearly £10k for this! The elegant proportions have been obliterated by a nose longer than Pinocchio; I'm struggling to think of anything positive at all....

Wasnt sure if I should post this here or under the 1-5 Barge thread.

I have a 1990 300CE that I am slowly getting back on the road.

It needs a new distributor cap and rotor arm, but not sure where to buy. I dont really trust the ebay ones, where do people recommend getting them from ? Iam based near Southport and if at all possible would like to visit an actual store, or is the web the best place nowadays.

Sorry if this is such a basic question, I really am behind the times !

Cheers

Andy

Some MB beards say with HT leads and distributors in particular you are best off going to the dealer, even bosch aftermarket parts not performing right and anecdotally it seems some running issues not cured by pattern equipment have been fixed using the genuine article.

Try calling a main dealer for a price anyway, you might find they aren't expensive, seems a bit of lottery on what parts they really crank up the price on.

Thanks Idiot Gap, the Main dealer price for the Dizzy Cap is not too bad at £26, but the rotor arm is not in stock anywhere near here and they cant order it in.
Anyone else any clues where to get a rotor arm from ?
Cheers

Interesting one this. I've got a '88 300SL, for the last two springs after the winter lay offs its run rough. I noted the Merc club chairman reported similar on his 129. Finally the car had far more serious issues so decided to change the lot last year, price from Merc dealer for leads, cap & rotor circa £500, price from ECP & GSF circa £100, no brainer you'd think.

However, similarly the suggestion was that only OE would do, & to be fair I'm yet to test for more than a year. However when comparing the originals, & I do mean originals, they were 27 years old, they were identical to the Bosch/Beru ones bar the Merc stamp, make of that what you will......

This spring I discussed this with my local Indy, THE Merc Indy in the area & their workshop manager as he had two 129's in with similar issues & he said in his experience it's a misnomer that supposedly pattern parts don't work.

Some pattern parts are good, some are rubbish, some are somewhere in between. Conventional wisdom is that the distributor parts that Merc offer are better. O've no idea myself.

Try www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk I find they are very good, most part some in about a week.
