Sorry, only joking,
Just looks a bit "stanced" in the photo.
Didn't mean to offend, always wanted a 2.3 16 back in the day.
You are forgiven Easternlight. I agree that the camera lens has distorted the Stance somewhat. I can reassure you that it is a standard setup, the SLS is still present and correct and I do have the original 15" wheels. But for info presently the wheels are Compomotive TH1781 and the car is a 2.5-16.Just looks a bit "stanced" in the photo.

Yeah still selling the S500. I have a new W222 S and I'm just not using the W140. The current cars are great for day to day and I have to say I love my W222 but the older ones look great and still drive superbly. I love every type of car really it's my affliction, lol. I love the S500 but I've not got the space for it really and it seems a bit of a waster just hanging onto something I'm not driving.
I've spent a few grand on it since I got it, all mechanical, new tyres, new cats, new shocks, it's had three oil changes to get it properly clean inside, diff and gearbox oils too. It drives beautifully and it's spot on but it needs a few cosmetics. Driver bolster needs repairing but apart from that interior is amazing for it's age. It's even got it's original Sat Nav from 98 with a 2010 (latest) disc in it! Works really well.
From memory the only things that don't work are the parking sensors and the picnic table doesn't want to come down. Not looked at that, bit hard to use when you're driving. There's a few little dents here and there as it's been a London car but it presents very well. Another grand or so should see it a really special example.
I have to MOT it as it's just lapsed as I've not driven it over the winter, just had it detailed, so it'll be up for sale shortly. I don't know why I'm selling it really, just am fitting out my workshop at the moment and want to buy a compressor and a few other bits and pieces to work on my 300 SEL 6.3 so seems silly to spank more cash when I should just let the W140 go.

Oh, here's a pic of the interior. Got rid of the old phone mount/speaker box so that's gone. Best combo with the Azurite blue IMO.

Back in 2004/2005 when I was just turning 20 I had a 3 year old Ford Focus with a 1.4 74bhp engine. It was a good car for a 19 year old but the insurance was killing me. It was street parked in a student area in Newcastle and was costing me 2k a year. I didnt even need a car for daily driving. So I looked hard at my options and decided on classic car insurance on a Porsche 944. In my search for a 944 a local dealer phoned me and said that he had an old Mercedes Coupe in my price range (circa 4k). He had just serviced it and replaced the front arches and done some general preventative maintenance as it had done limited miles in the past few years. I said sure I will have a look at it.
It turned out to be a silver with black interior 1990 CE300-24 with the Sportline pack. I drove it and fell in love!!! No more Porsche for me. Plus the insurance on the CE was only 900 quid for a 20 year old. The guy threw in a 6 month warranty too as he was confident of its mechanical ability.
In two years of ownership the only problem I had was that I needed to replace the radiator but luckily for me that was covered by the warranty. The fuel prices were pretty awful for a student budget haha.
One thing I will always remember was that I bought the car on its condition. I had no real knowledge of power, performance or handling. I thought it would be a lazy engine and a slow heavy old cruiser. I remember on the first day of ownership I was taking it real easy as only lightly accelerating around the town keeping up with traffic. Then I saw a gap and decided to plant my right foot. The thing was bloody quick! I couldnt quite believe how fast. My buddy shouted "bloody hell". My dad had some quick cars like an RS6 but this old girl could go!!
I looked up the official 0-60 times for the car and it sounded slow, I cant remember the figures now but around 8 seconds rings a bell. I got mine timed properly and over 3 runs the average 0-60 was 6.5 seconds. I always wondered if that was normal or if a previous owner modified something.

Lovely. How does the c36 drive compared to the SL?
Certainly different enough to warrant both! The C36 is edgier, sharper and noisier. It's more like a sports car, but sensitive to the correct tyres to feel at its best. My car has a 4-speed auto, which I like, and the SL is a 300-24 with a 5-speed 'box, which slurs up and down a little smoother.
Performance in the C class in a different league as far as usable overtaking poke is concerned. It's far more alive, and whilst not tiring, the SL soothes more after a hard day.
The SL is marginally better on fuel, a touch more solid in it's build quality, whereas the C36 has more character and probably the best straight six Mercedes have made.
I've owned the C36 for ten years, and the SL for five. Love 'em both.

Thanks for sharing - I must try the 300-24 engine sometime. Does anyone have an opinion as to how it compares to the 12v 300?alross1212 said:

Thanks for sharing - I must try the 300-24 engine sometime. Does anyone have an opinion as to how it compares to the 12v 300?My £350 C240 Elegance. My 5th W202. Tip top condition and just flew through MOT with just rear DL bulb which is a common fault, good job there's 2 each side! Combined mileage by me of over 200k. Total cost of all 5 cars £1950!
My favourite was the C240 Sport in Black that was really very dark metallic blue, did 85k in that before it chucked its gearbox.
It's hard to find a more comfortable car for me and I never seem to get tired on long journeys for some reason.
Hanker for a C43 although I did look at a red C36 some time ago but £8k seemed a bit rich at the time. Not now though!

I share your enthusiasm for the w202. The early ones approached w124 build quality; the later ones were more rust-prone. Now w203's are available for banger-money (my supercharged coupe was £900), the 202's will get really rare in the next few years. You can still get a decent AMG for £8k, don't despair. Not mine though. Mine would cost you millions.

Love your red rocket. I think the 6 is thought of better than the 8 from what I have read. Enjoy!
