Chap round my way has done the same thing. Is it a white car done out like a racing car?

That sounds like an interesting idea.

Hopefully this time tomorrow I will have my third old Merc that qualifies for this thread!

Done! A rather nice 190E 2.6. Very happy with it on the drive home.

This is my August 89 R107 300SL

And this is my 1992 R129 500SL
A lovely pair - having two is just plain greedy!

I'd be more than happy with either.
Well I might as well go the whole hog with my 113 and 231

Didn't you have an SLS too?

Yes, the SLS that I recently sold. But of the ones above it has to be the 107. Just the right combination of classic looks and realibility. Having said that the 231 is a fabulous all round two seater.

Paul,

I know you felt a nagging doubt that you sold your SLS too quickly.

If you go to www.deymotors.co.uk/used-cars they have a 25,000 mile SLS for sale.

Might not be your cup of tea?

Although, the Volvo P1800 is my favourite ( and more in my budget range!)

Chris.

I bet it was 5 really, and that your wife was furious when you let her out of the boot.

Great pic!

Hi Chris
White isn't my preferred colour. I sold mine for a lot less than that with only 5k miles. What an idiot.. Without doubt the best car I have ever owned.. It was an occasion every time I took her out.

PS Anyone know what has happened to Andrew Palmer aka Palmball. He has gone very quiet lately. Must have gone through a few more cars as well

Does anyone else use a classic Mercedes for track days?
Yup. Not quite as retro and nowhere near as cool as yours though. '97 s320. Added 500 kg less weight, cut the springs, disabled driver aids, went to play.

Couldn't sell it for £400 so it went to the scrapyard. Bloody brilliant car!

Had lots of other 80's 90's Mercs too...

w123 coupe. I sold it with 333,000 miles (original engine) in 2000. I heard it was still going strong 2 years ago, even though I ruined it with hydraulics...

I then got given a 380SEC. It was vandalised in Brick Lane and the owner just wanted it gone. Two days work and about £100 in parts and it was back on the road. My first v8. I ruined it with hydraulics.

A LHD 420SEC came along next in 2002. £1500 with a bit of corner damage. Pushed it out, lowered, cruised. It was a face lift black/black car that would be worth loads now. Next owner blew the gearbox and scrapped it. Git.

But then the dream SEC came up for a grand. A 1990 560SEC. Again, vandalised and looking very sorry for itself

A mate did the bodywork for me and it looked amazing.

But then I ruined it with hydraulics.

This car lives on though and I believe is now on air.

Next came a succession of w140's - I kept forgetting to sell one when another came along. Had 4 at one point. Won't bore with details, but an s280 as a daily, s320 track car (above), S320L as a wedding car and an early s500 that I ruined with hydraulics...
Oh, here they all are... rolleyes

It got a bit modern after that with w210s, an w210 AMG, and now the e63 which quite frankly is silly.

What a great lineup!

You really like the hydraulics- what are they like to drive with them? Ride quality, handling etc?

I remember the 123 coupe and the SECs, you were a nutter back then.
Sure I banged my head against the b pillar whilst you "demonstrated" the power of the hydraulics.
The head trauma would explain a lot...

Do you still make the polished up engine block tables in your spare time?
