Rear diff seals circa £250. Very easy job for a specialist.

Behr condensor £250 from Euro or £450 from MB. About an hour to fit.

Engine oil leak... well, it rather depends where from!

Thank you for this useful information.

I've just spent an hour under the car, which is liberally coated with oil! I've cleaned up as much as I can reach then will have a look again tomorrow night to try and locate the source of any fresh drops. The alternator area was particularly well oiled.

My initial thoughts are to have the head and rocker cover gaskets replaced. Are there any other weakspots on this engine?

I will start a readers' cars thread, I don't want to de-rail this thread.

Congratulations on the purchase. Pedro at Inautos is always recommended. John Haynes is a bit further south I think, but also highly recommended.
Very helpful indeed, thanks a lot.

I look forward to seeing some pictures of the V12.

Re the condensor I had mine replaced at a cost of 600 pounds all in. A/C now blows very cold.

Good luck with the oil leak!

Hi sorry to go off subject a bit but I've also noticed R230's if not appreciating certainly holding prices. Paticularly 500SL's with low mileage/pan roofs. Incidently I sold my 320SL V6 to a guy from Germany for a the same price I paid 3 years ago. Not really sure why he wanted a RH drive car in Germany though? Are we experiencing a trend in all SL's or just a seasonal thing? J C.

Thanks for that.

It looks great, I'm thinking my car really does miss another 4 cylinders looking at that.

Vendor might get lucky but, I agree although closer than you might think.

Nice car that but very heavy on price imo. It doesn't have the sport kit as the advert says.

He won't get anywhere near that asking.

To me it looks like £10k but with that low mileage maybe £15k

Poorly presented for the optimistic price. Another decade or so, with all things remaining equal, and prices like this may seem acceptable, but not this car in this colour in today's market.

Somewhat randomly, here's my stripy carpets.

Like your stripey carpets. Like your car.

As regards the SL500, cars such as this are now being snapped up. www.coupeandcabriolet.co.uk/news-views/4570271164 scroll down to second item

This colour combination was Bruno Sacco's choice for his own SL500. I could see a dealer asking this price and getting close. Privately, more likely low 22K high 25K

No way. £15k, maybe. And it doesn't have nearly every option, either. Why do people keep putting that in their adverts?

Because they genuinely think that is the case, or they are lying!

Maybe its because unless you are an MB geek and know how extensive the options list is you look at the list of standard and optional items on your car and think "wow, its got everything".

Just on the sale price I think that a buyer's attitude will be dependent on the use he/she has in mind for the car. By and large I suspect that everyone here owns their car to drive it. My view is that this car will be bought by someone who sees it as a longer term investment which might get occasional use. I appreciate that this is an anathema to most here and unless the car gets sympathetic regular exercise not in its long term best interests.

If my intention was to buy one of these cars to put tens of thousands of miles on it I would be looking to buy something at a third of the price. If it was an investment choice, assuming everything else stacks up, I think a low £20k is not unreasonable.

Either way unless a Piston-Header buys it we shall never know.
