R129 - full service before touring...
Discussion
Hello
I have a R129 I bought a year or so ago. I am about to take it through Europe and want to do as much as I can before I leave to get it 100%.
Apart from a full service what else should I do?
Gearbox oil?
Diff oil?
Flex disks?
Steering damper?
Its a M113 engine, any electrical consumables that should be replaced?
I am used to taking my TVR so might be being a bit overly worried!
Thanks Env

I'm not sure I'd bother with any of it. Just get in and go.
But if you must, in order of priority:
1. Front anti-roll bar bushes.
2. Engine oil and filter.
3. Tyres.
4. Transmission fluid and filter. Check for leaks at the harness socket connector.
5. Wiper blade.
6. Change cabin filter. Two minute job, probably never been done, makes a difference to cabin comfort with the roof up.
7. Check levels and condition of all other fluids.
8. Check brake pad and disc thickness.
9. Check air con.
10. Check crank shaft damper pulley. The rubber insert can come away with bad consequences.
11. Check poly-vee belt.
12. Check everything else.
Think about replacing the crank shaft position sensor. Cheap part, easy replacement. Tedious if it fails.
Clean the inside of the windows. Clean the hood plastic windows with some proprietary plastic cleaner.
Make sure your spare is up to snuff, that you have the locking wheel nut, the tool roll and spare bulbs. I always take a 450mm breaker bar with a 17mm socket: much easier than the supplied wheel brace if you do get a puncture.

A failed steering damper won't stop you. A failed flex disc will (ask me how I know)
I'd just follow the service sheet for a major service, it covers everything.
