9N3 Polo dipped beam/"side lights" not working

Hello all,
I'm a long time lurker on the forums and have an issue with the lights on my car, so figured I would ask the fountain of knowledge that is Pistonheads forum members!
For the last few weeks the centre lights or dipped/side lights on my Polo haven't been working. My main beam and high beams work fine, but I just figured the bulbs were dodgy.
Today I replaced the bulbs and still nothing. The brake lights come on as usual when the headlight switch is in the parking/side light position but not the fronts... I checked the fuses as well and they all appear to be intact. This is both the side light fuses and the dipped beam fuses.
There are no "bulb out" warnings on the dash, but then again I'm not sure if the 9N Polo's had this feature. Just something I came across while searching the web.
My car is due for it's MOT at some point next month and knowing that this is an instant fail, I am keen to get it sorted quickly. I've searched various forums and tried what was suggested, but can't seem to get it sorted. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have seen something about maybe the headlight switch being dodgy, but surely the other positions such as main beam and fogs, etc. also wouldn't work if this was the case?
