I have a 2004 E500. One of the previous owners (possibly the original owner) had a sports exhaust fitted... I can't vouch that it is a genuine AMG item, but the dealer thought it was, it certainly looks identical to me and makes a lovely racket. smile

Unfortunately, the brackets that fit it to the car from the centre-box back have corroded to the point that one side sheared today... The local exhaust centre showed me whilst it was up on the ramps and I have decided I won't be driving it except to an appointment to replace the exhaust as I really wouldn't trust it not to snap if I keep using it daily.

The exhaust centre couldn't get prices from their usual suppliers, but they had done a bit of googling and £1000 is the ballpark for the system from the centre box back. They suggested a few places that make up bespoke exhausts, so I don't think they want to touch it.

So... does anyone have recommendations for where to get a similarly rumbly sporty exhaust for an E500 or E55 (looks like they have identical exhaust fitment)? I'm in Bedfordshire but anywhere around East Anglia / North London / West London / Middlesex / Surrey is doable for me.

I'd rather go the fully-fitted route, but at a push a family member might let me have access to his ramps and impact tools if DIY is necessary... just no welding.

RSR at Bromley or Maidstone Exhaust Centre it'll cost you less than £1000

Thanks, I'll give Maidstone a call and see what they can advise, looks like they are a bespoke-specialist outfit.

They will ask to see the car then they'll get all the parts in then you just drop it off & come back latter that day & it's done.

EMP at St Albans, they deal with lots of AMG exhaust mods, even the local AMG tuners send their clients cars there, for exhaust mods, their work is exceptional, and no cost just to enquire for what they can do for you, my own highly modified E55K is wearing a totally bespoke exhaust system from them, I highly recommend EMP, ask for Simon or Eldin.

have you thought about getting it repaired.

the hangar bracket coming adrift really doesn't sound like a reason to bin the entire exhaust

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure how different the V8 exhaust is, but the hangers corroding is a common fault on lesser models. It happened on my petrol 320 and my indie welded a hanger back in place.

It is seriously corroded where the hangers meet the pipes, I thought welding an exhaust might be a short term patch rather than a fix but perhaps I've been too cautious as it's worked for others!
I'm going to PowerFlow in Milton Keynes on Monday, £500 inc vat and fitting for x-pipe, twin silencers and double-ovals all in stainless.
