My wife has a GL, it's two years old and obviously it's an old model now, but it does not crab, judder or scrabble the tyres at low speeds.

Looking at those videos it's the exact same judder that I used to get when running my Isuzu/Nissan pick up trucks in 4wd, something about the diffs winding up?

There's no way that could be described as normal 4wd behaviour, her GL doesn't do it, my Touareg doesn't do it, my Disco 4 didn't do it.

Clearly there's an issue with RHD cars, I'd be furious and I really really like the GLC43 but I wouldn't contemplate owning any 4wd that did this every time I needed to park it.
How did you like the d4? I fancy one... I know it isn't fast but is it stable or quite floaty?

I had mine for 6 months, a few niggles under warranty and overall it was a decent car, comfortable, rode well and the air suspension did a decent job of keeping everything on the level.

I found it a bit narrow and cramped inside, a little creaky around the centre console and other places which gave the impression of cheap plastics and average build quality.

The Touareg and GL are much better built and feel more solid, Tregs are dirt cheap on lease these days (£350 a month).

My neighbour has just got a D4 Carbon (a run out model I think?), it's done about 1000 miles, seems to have all the kit of a HSE plus some nice wheels etc and he got it for £41k, a bargain I thought even if the new Disco is launched shortly?

Exactly my experience as well, and our car before this was the excellent x166 GL. To me this was even more confirmed as guess what this morning it didn't do it, unsurprisingly really as we have ice and snow, and just like you in old school 4WD you only have that on when you have a road surface like this. The system dealt beautiful with the ice and snow, and there was no crabbing wink I'm sure that once the tarmac is back, and temperatures increase and tyres get more grip it will be back.

Oh dear, look at this latest article.

If you aren't happy with your GLC, suffer this issue and feel like you aren't getting anywhere, please make yourselves known in the comments. It will become the initial register for a class action against Mercedes.

Yes it reminds me of exactly the same thing that happens in Nissan Navara D40s when you turn sharply on tarmac with 4wd engaged. That's caused by both front wheels being driven at the same speed due to the lack of a differential on the front transfer box. Normally, on mud, snow, sand, ice etc, the front wheels can slip to compensate but are prevented from doing so on tarmac, with the result that you can wreck your diff.

It would be interesting to see if anything fails if you drive a GLC round in endless circles on tarmac or whether the fault happens on slippy ground.

I can confirm that it doesn't do it on slippy ground wink This morning we had ice and snow and the car handled it beautifully.

This was exactly the point I made in my first post on this issue; I too used to have a D40 Pickup, and a Nissan Patrol as well. It feels like exactly how you describe it, and this morning on slippy ground it was gone exactly as I expected it to be. I'm sure it will be back when the weather heats up and the snow and ice is gone and I'm left with grippy tarmac. Winter tyres my arse that will fix this.

As a family we've owned Landcruiser's for many years, everything from the old 80 series up to the 200 series, they never did this either.

I just can't work out how such a well engineered vehicle that would have had countless R&D resources thrown into its development can have such an obvious flaw?

Has anyone drove a GLC in stock at dealers with the winter tyres fitted at all or are there any available to test?..
Surely this would answer some of the questions.

With respect it wouldn't at all.

The interesting time would be if you come to sell it privately or even trade in. I always perform a tight turn each way in a car park to listen for any suspension or wheel bearing issues. If I came across any of these noises as demonstrated on youtube while test driving one I'd run a mile and no amount of "they all do that sir" would change my mind.

Interesting... so the d4 is not so solid either. Hmmm... not a fan of the toureg. Sorry. Each to their own. Re your pal, yes I think it's a Graphite D4. Very nice and some good features. They are the SE Tech with grey wheels. Indeed a run out model. As the Landmark is the HSE Lux with another badge.

There's quite a list there now. Simple truth, the dealers can't afford to refund everyone. At this point I'd settle for a very fair buyback which would not unduly hurt the dealer or me. But I need my dealer to return my calls for that to happen...

Someone suggested to make a slow motion version of the video. So I've used final cut pro and slowed down some of the clips. Yup wheel definitely not staying in place wink

There was a guy over on MBClub who's father bought one of the first GLC's and rejected it soon after taking delivery. I guess now MB have so many wanting to reject they have taken a firmer stance on this issue. Same problem but now a different response due to it being so widespread.
