W220 S350 - a couple of questions

Hi chaps,
Just bought a one owner, 50k miles, 2005 S350 and am loving it.
I have noticed that the manual gear change function doesn't work. Its not a huge problem as i will seldom use it, but wondered if it is a simple problem to resolve, and hopefully not a symptom of a forthcoming rogering?
I want to take a charger cable to the right of the steering wheel. Is there an easy place to tap into inside the panel at the right hand end of the dash?
