New price benchmark for R107 SL
Discussion
Have a look at this under 'Mercedes' ;

It seems we have a new benchmark for R107s - £90k! Ok they are very low mileage, late models, but these would have been £40k tops not very long ago.
First pagodas were out my range and now it seems R107s are slipping away! At least there's enough R129s for me..just would like a SL60 or 73 AMG!

That cars been discussed on the Merc club forum, consensus there was bonkers too!
As lovely as a 107 is they're not worth anything like that, plus I bet it's still got bulk head rust!!
A 129 is a good call, no they're nowhere near as pretty, but more usable.....that said I was surprised how much better the facelift 107 was to drive than I anticipated.

Like any commodity a car is worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for it. www.theslshop.com/car-showroom/slshop.html?cat=35
suggests that there are buyers out there for very low mileage post '85 R107s at prices that twelve months ago seemed unimaginable. Personally I am not surprised what's happening in the market. European prices have been heading along a similar trajectory for some time.
As regards the 129 this has already been discussed in a different thread and good low mileage examples are already on the up so I wouldn't wait too long were I considering a purchase. £56,000 for a 13,000 mile SL60 might be a bargain one day?
Exactly my point, (extremely) low mileage is such a non-bonus point for me - I'd be more impressed if there was one on offer with half a million miles on the clock, albeit that would not be asking 90 grand for it.
Cars need to be used - it's all very well an 'as new' 30 year old car with delivery mileage; yes it's clean inside and oh, look there's been nothing in the boot and aww, a clean engine bay...but sorry that's not what it's been designed for.
I think SL prices are all over the place at the moment - £50k can buy anything from a W113, R107, R129 and R230/231 of varying degrees but all driveable and obviously differing performance (thinking SL60/55/63/600).
