SL350 - 2006 vs. Earlier cars. Difference?

Last year I had a nice time with my 2003 SL350. Aside from brake failure going into a roundabout and a throttle pedal fail it was pretty good!
Moving from an E500 down to the 3.7 I was expecting it to be sluggish, but the performance was fine and the car quite fun.
My question is this, I find myself hankering for another. Does anyone have any experience of the 2006 facelift cars vs. earlier? Thinking about the 350. Much performance/mpg difference? Any other noticable improvements?
