Oh how lovely - I am jealous. Please take and post a few pics of the car when it's wearing them.

I will do, it's almost like fate that we were talking about them on Fri then by Sat I have 4 on there way to me!!!

Found a few reviews on them, mostly from the U.S, but still everyone is very positive about them.

I am intrigued how you find the GL compared to the ML, I assume there was a requirement for 7 seats or did you just want the biggest one!?!

Really I want an AMG/Brabus 6x6 but without a spare £700K the GL is the next best thing. The 7 seats comes in useful on occasion but more of a "would like" than a "must have".

The capability to go anywhere is similarly useful rather than essential.

Ultimately, these trucks are brilliant holiday vehicles. Just fill them up and go. You don't need to decide whether to take this OR that. You can take it all. smile

It towed my mother's 26' twin-axle caravan with absolute ease. In fact, I think Mercs are the only non-LR that can tow 3.5 tonnes. Certainly our X5 couldn't and my brother's Q7 can't.
Nope - the Cayenne can also tow 3.5t and is also properly capable off-road (front, centre, and rear diff locks plus adjustable ride height and wheels that have fantastic individual wheel articulation with PDCC option ticked)

That's quite interesting given it's based on the Q7. I wonder just how much is common/different?

The second gen Cayenne has nothing in common with the first gen Q7.

Its "twinned" with the Toureg not the Q7

Again interesting. I had assumed all 3 shared the same platform. Every day's a school day.

Is the Toureg similarly capable of towing 3.5T? That would be a perfect motor for a caravan-owning friend of mine who loves the VW brand but was enamoured of my GL this week (as a tow vehicle).
